I did a search but didn’t see a thread for this, so I thought I would start one. If there is one, please feel free to delete (but give me the link first lol)!
I have quite a bit of silver and gold pieces and I am looking for feedback from everyone about cleaning their jewelry.
What I usually do is soak my jewelry in warm water with some Dawn dish soap, scrub with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and then use a polishing cloth. I am currently using a Mayflower polishing cloth to remove tarnish.
However, I have always read that polishing cloths wear away the metal. I looked into that and realized that there are micro abrasives in most polishing cloths!
I honestly didn’t know this. I just thought the cloths were impregnated with a chemical that simply removes the tarnish.
Are there any cloths that simply have something to remove tarnish or does it always have micro abrasives?
I am also looking into either an ultrasonic cleaner or a steam cleaner. My husband is worried that the ultrasonic cleaner might loosen the diamonds in my wedding set. I have read that one must be careful with certain settings in an ultrasonic cleaner so I would love some feedback.

Back Story:
Like so many of you, I have been a handbag aficionado for many years. At this point in my life, I feel very blessed to have curated a nice designer/luxury handbag collection, mostly from Hermes, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton. As far as Hermes, there are only a few bags left on my wishlist: B25/B30 in Bambou (GHW or PHW) and Vert de Gris (GHW). I have been waiting on these particular bags for YEARS. I finally had a podium order for a B30 VdG Togo GHW a few years ago – however, for whatever reason, the H gods never brought it to fruition. In the interim, I was offered a B30 Bambou Togo PHW, but alas, it was a verso with a Caramel interior. In my opinion, the Caramel interior “warmed” up the bag which I felt harshly clashed with the “cool” and crisp PHW. If that verso combo was offered with GHW, it would have been a no-brainer for me. I do still continue to purchase items I covet from luxury designer houses – for example, seasonal H cashmere and silk scarves and CDC bracelets; however, my desire for items is starting to naturally decline as I’ve been a collector for many years now (i.e. how many scarves and/or CDC bracelets does one really need?) In the meantime, I’ve been inspired by many of the threads on TPF re: bespoke bags….so here we are. On Christmas 2022, @Christofle and I were private messaging about bespoke Himalayan pieces when he directed me to a few ateliers on Instagram. I absolutely despise social media, but my degree of love for handbags is more (LOL), so begrudgingly, with his nudge (yes, I blame him, LOL), I went and peeked around. Of course, I looked over Peter Nitz’s designs – no question re: spot-on craftsmanship, but the designs didn’t overall speak to me. However, I took a look at the Mirus bag (@mila.jito) on Instagram, and I was completely smitten and enamored with the design, functionality, and versatility – the rest was history. Of note, each Mirus bag comes with a detachable M harness for a crossbody option.

Ordering Process:
First, smooth Barenia is one of my absolute favorite leather hides of all time. I contacted Lili via Instagram and confirmed she sourced her Barenia leather from Haas tannery (similar to Hermes). I decided on a Mirus 21 in Fauve Barenia GHW since I love the specs having already own an Hermes B30 Smooth Fauve Barenia w/ GHW – just now desiring a drastically different size. Overall, she was extremely patient with all of my questions and extremely rapid in her responses and communication throughout the entire process with me. She provided multiple interior color options to choose from. I wanted a dark/navy blue interior which was not one of the original options – Lili went above and beyond and kindly asked her supplier for dark/navy blue options and came back with a total of four (4) for me to choose from. She requested my height so she could properly measure out my M harness. I told her my initials for the embossed name tag. I placed the order on 12/27/2022. Given her schedule at the time, it was estimated that my bag would be ready by mid-May 2023.

Order Details:
Mirus 21 (i.e. Palm Mirus)
Size – 21 cm W x 12 cm D x 15 cm H

Contrast White/Natural Stitching

Dark/Navy Blue Interior

The Mirus bag is currently offered in the Mirus 21 (Palm Size), Mirus 26, Mirus 30, and Mirus 35. The Mirus 21 (Palm Size) starts at around $4200 and goes up depending on the type of leather you choose (i.e. calfskin/goatskin/Barenia vs. exotics/alligator or crocodile). Of course, the price adjusts depending on the size Mirus you choose as well. Himalayan Croc is an option.

Finally:
Fast forward a few months -- the bag arrives on my doorstep via FedEx 05/06/2023. It arrives carefully packaged/wrapped in a huge H-size designer box with a dustbag. Personally, I could do without the box, but it was still a nice touch.

Comparison (Palm Mirus vs. B30):

• Barenia – mostly identical -- same smooth/velvety feel, same Barenia smell, same Barenia qualities whereas it scratches easily but easily buffed out via hand, water spots fade; however, the fauve color is ever so slightly darker in the Mirus; and the Mirus has an ever so slightly smoother feel perhaps because it’s brand new compare to the B30 which is from 2017 (this is me being very discerning here – my husband who is extremely picky could not decipher the difference and felt the leathers were the same)
• Contrast Stitching – identical – both high-quality handstitched
• Interior – I’m not certain what kind of leather hide the Mirus interior is, but the Mirus appears to have a chevre-like quality to it, at least by look and touch; one interior slip pocket; by the way, @880, I know, I know, the dark/navy blue interior w/ fauve Barenia creates a Ralph Lauren feel, but hey, that it my thing apparently lol
• Hardware – the feet of the Mirus bag are stainless steel with real gold plating – they appear darker in color than the B30 GHW feet; it is unclear what kind of metal is used for the Mirus buckles – they do appear to match the Mirus feet in hue though
• Closure – the Mirus has a strong magnetic closure – yay, no zippers to scratch your hands/fingers, but neither does the Birkin so it’s a wash
• M Harness – the harness is made in Barenia leather and has an “interior” contrast that matches the interior of the bag; the harness is secured via a single snap button closure and is extremely quick and easy to maneuver; the crossbody option fits me, but given my big boobs, I only wish I told Lili I was taller so it could fit me exactly the way I prefer – so keep that in mind if you have a similar body type

I used the bag for the first time today (hence all the small scratches on the Barenia in the photos, those were done by me, hehe). It is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve already had someone random who I’ve never met point it out and inquire about it in quick passing.

Hi all! I am thinking of getting an everyday necklace and I am stuck between the 2 below VCA Alhambra and Waskoll. I think they are both beautiful but special in their own way. VCA is more iconic but Waskoll might be more unique. There isn’t a huge price difference between the 2. Any opinions on which yous think is best? Thanks!

I’m in the market for an everyday necklace and am torn between these two. Ideally my SA at Cartier could source a carnelian Amulette for me, although onyx would be a second choice. Neither of these collections seems terribly popular unfortunately. Any advice or recommendations? Thanks as always!

Hi! Took the plunge on the crystal city. I owned the canvas bb monogram in the Xs size but sold because I didn’t love. Thought I’d try out to larger size. Does it look ridiculous on me? I’m 5’6 and typically wear a s/Xs & 26 in jeans. Love the crystals. Am thinking of it as a casual run around in athletic gear, dark denim and not worry about denim transfer, etc…I don’t have many “casual” bags as I recently streamlined my collection. Keep or return? Also, has anyone who owns this had issues with the crystals?

About six years ago or so, I purchased a small chevron Le Boy in calfskin with shiny silver hardware. Within the past two years, the hardware, namely that which is on the clasp, has developed rather unsightly discoloration. If not the effect of tarnishing, might it be the result of some other oxidation process?

Granted, it has been used at least once per week for six consecutive years. The integrity of the rest of the bag, sparing the expected scratches and other manifestations of regular use, is rather stellar.

3 nights ago, my family's home was broken into. They completely ransacked our home. Anything they could get their hands on, they pillaged through and threw everything on the floor. Its going to take days just to clean the mess. It feels like they were in the home for hours. Luckily nobody was home so we are all safe but my bag collection was not safe from these burglars.

They took everything. I am still flustered and trying to make sense of everything - I am devastated and cannot stop crying. I have been collecting bags for 17 years, a lot of the time I saved up for my purchases and a lot of those bags/items hold sentimental value.

I made a list of items they took. So far I have 21 items on my list but I'm sure there are more like some CL shoes and Chanel boots/sneakers but I just can't think straight right now.

They had all the time in the world because they literally took out all of the stuffing from the bags.

I don't even know what to do. We spoke with police and there is a report - they suggested we speak with neighbors for video footage. I spoke with the neighbors but I am not hopeful that there will be any footage so these people are just going to get away with this and it breaks my heart. I know its just material things but its still such a violation and I don't know how I am going to recover from this.

I was thinking of checking online to see if any of these items pop up for sale but Ive never had anything like this happen to me so if anyone has any advice on what to do please share. I had to call my banks and let them know in case they try anything because they had access to everything in the home. This is actually one of my worst nightmares and it came true.

My dad was kinda encouraging me to not open a claim with insurance because he says they will hardly cover the cost of the bags and then will increase the insurance and might not cover the home anymore. He very recently had to file a claim at his business and that's what happened to him. Does anyone know any more info about home insurance covering the theft? We have Mercury.

I was recently shopping at a department store and the sales lady mentioned that the quality of clothes sold in store vs online is not the same ; the items sold online ( even those directly from the brand ) are of a lower quality.
I was really surprised since I never heard of this. Is this factual or was she trying to make more in store sales?

Does anyone use their WOC as a large wallet in totes with the chain tucked in? Alternatively, does anyone carry a WOC + a second bag when they need to haul more stuff? I want to pick up my first Chanel. Thinking of a Trendy WOC but want to make sure I’ll use it enough.

I am returning the Tilsitt as it is tiny and I don’t think it is worth the price.

What I mean is there is a zipper, if I open it it doesn’t have any allocated space.

Have been interested in this bag since I first saw a photo in LV 2023 collections thread. Managed to see & try it on in both the BB & MM in store but they didn't have the smaller version in stock. I absolutely fell in love with the BB size. I didn't realise you could buy it with ivory/white leather on the sides as well as black. Also was shocked that the much larger version is only £90 more expensive which seems like a good deal if you're going for the bigger size. Not so much if you want the BB

I have decided to order from the LV website but have to wait a week or so Hate waiting lol Anyhow my concern is with the top handles in the lighter tan colour. They seem like a smooth leather. Do you think they are going to be prone to a lot of wear/colour transfer etc? I do love the bag but just have concerns on the handles.

I saw it in store and as much as I like it I felt it was a bit fiddly to get into as the opening isn't that wide. Can anyone who has this bad sore there experiences of actual use please. Is this something that bothers you?

Had some issues with tarnish GHW issues in the last couple of YSL bags I recently purchase, and wanted to see if others are experiencing the same or if I’m just being too picky. Because I compared it to my other ysl bags GHW and they new bags GHW looks like it’s used.

First bag with the issue I noticed was the small puffer chain bag I purchased from FWRD and both the chain and the logo GHW was so tarnish and scratched and I had to exchanged it two more times for the same issues and finally just return it for a full refund.

Most recent bag I just received, the Gaby zipped pouch in quilted lambskin, bought directly from the YSL website hoping it won’t have this issue for a different type of bag, but yet again it has that same tarnish scratched on the GHW. Planning to return it, and I was glad I purchase it from the website versus in store because I can return it for a full refund. I’m disappointed in the quality of the GHW, the leather is so pretty on this bag. It’s unfortunate.

Is anyone else experiencing this with their new bags and/or is this just a new thing with their GHW style and that’s supposed to be the look? I’m comparing my older YSL bags and SLGs GHW and they are still shiny and beautiful, and maybe YSL is using a different kind of GHW now? Or maybe I’m just picky.

I've only been collecting for a year and a half so maybe this is normal for LV, but I've been overwhelmed by all of the new releases starting with the 2nd wave Kusama. I can't keep up with the styles, the colors, the prices or the release dates.

Is it typical for LV to release so many new bags?
