Great vision for 2025! On #2, what about looking for clothing in your size that is meant to be looser? The proportions should be better for your frame, which might alleviate the fit issues you are noticing in photos. On #5, kudos to you for choosing what you want to wear! If you look and feel good, then no one will care whether the item/color is trending.
Thanks! I usually like to have an awareness of what’s trending, colors of the year and season, and such like even if I don’t always follow them precisely. But I also want to wear what I am feeling enthusiastic about whether it be a certain color, style or pattern because ultimately fashion is about figuring out what suits you best and having fun too.
Regarding #2, are you referring to oversized clothing? It seems to be trending for the last few years. I had wool coats that were oversized and I liked them. However, it’s mostly sweaters (pullovers) that I seem to prefer having in a looser fit, mostly because it feels cozier. It seems to be a winter thing because I don’t quite have the same issue with summer dresses and outfits.

Spot on! I was referring to oversized clothing, which does seem to be on trend (again). I’ve found that certain proportions work for me in looser clothing, while others don’t. I have to be especially careful with the hip/butt/thigh area, since that’s where I carry all of my weight. It takes some extra work, but I have been able to find looser clothing that not just comfortable, but actually makes me look thinner in photos!

@DME, I’m going to see if I can find some options locally to try some oversized pieces. Buying clothing online rarely works for me since I’m really bad with returns if it doesn’t work out.
Would love to hear how this turns out, if you’re inclined to share. I’ve found clothing is a lot like dating: Have to kiss a lot of frogs (try on a lot of clothes) before finding the right one. Once I get a handle on what works for me with a brand, then I can more easily order online without fear of having to return. Good luck!

Definitely will share once I’ve had a chance to explore. And agree with you about the trial and error involved before finding the right one. Also, after you find the right choice you still have to be watchful lest the manufacturers modify or discontinue it altogether. If it’s a staple item like a tee shirt, it’s best to buy backups when possible.

Oh, that modification thing really grates on my nerves! I wish they would stop that!

Greens have been around for a while, mostly because of the sudden popularity of Bottega Veneta's re-branding (under Daniel Lee) Parakeet and Grass (which look exactly the same). Those bright shades of leaf green are fabulous for accents, but a dark green coat is a lot more versatile. It's very hard to find the perfect shade when you want/need. Have a look at some of the traditional brands like Holland Cooper or Slater Walker as well as designers like Max Mara, they often have a larger ranges of classic colours for a single model. I think green is a bit easier to find than it used to be, although olive is still the most produced colour choice for outerwear. Gucci are doing 'Vintage Green' again this Summer which shows green has been selling well.

This Summer (apart from some hideous Pantone colours that usually suit no-one) it's supposed to be yellow according to the fashion sites I've read. I would love a yellow bag.

The masses must think Pantone has some secret power like a coloured crystal ball. It's just the industry trying to coordinate mass-produced products globally so that everyone's bath mat matches their toilet seats. It was never supposed to be for clothes. All trend forecasting is run by non-creatives for non-creatives and is totally stifling for creativity including people who want to express themselves through what they wear.

@papertiger I took a quick look at the Holland Cooper website and some things caught my eye. Will be going back to peruse slowly as well as check out the other recommendations. Thanks for the suggestions. :flowers:

Agree with you that the bright leaf green shades make wonderful accent pieces. Green has a wealth of shades but maybe not as many as blue though. Blue-greens are lovely too.

I’m looking less at outerwear and more at other pieces like tops, maybe even a dress. All this started with trying on a dark emerald green dress for a holiday party last month (where the theme was red or green). Although I didn’t buy the dress because of fit issues I really liked the color on me so that kind of rekindled my interest in the color. Years ago I had a lovely apple green silk shirt, the silk was rippling and substantial and light at the same time. It accidentally got mixed up with a regular load of laundry and was never the same again. I would love to find something similar.

I might even consider a scarf or two. I almost bought a vintage but in new fab condition Must de Cartier scarf in shades of green with some blue accents but I dithered too long and it sold right under my nose. Oh well! I loved your Must de Cartier scarf that you posted last year.

Regarding Pantone colors: good points, and ha ha yes, sometimes they can be quite uninspiring like the mocha one for this year. I like a soft, lemony yellow for spring/summer but I’d probably pick a mustard colored bag over classic yellow because I think it’s a year round color and probably goes with more things (similar to the Saint Laurent bag you were considering sometime back).

I have two vintage Cartier scarves now, the red and another one navy with lots of emerald. The vintage ones are so much nicer than the new I was considering. I bet the older Cartier scarves have plenty of cws that feature jewel-tones including emerald. Don't give up looking, they are like jewellery themselves.

Yes, I had a beautiful pink silk one.

Unfortunately I gifted it either to my late Aunt or my Mother, and have reason to believe it is now in the clutches of my evil sister(who would Never wear it)- as my Dad said I could have it, but it has mysteriously vanished, ditto my Nirav Modi silver elephant and a Tiffany engraved crystal champagne flute from my Tiffany crystal collection…

last week I re-organized my closet by arranging solely by color using the model below. I find that it looks more aesthetically pleasing.

my style vision for 2025 includes enjoying the pieces that I already have and purging which is ongoing. also, sticking to my wishlist is very important to me.

*I enjoy the look of a set. I find that with having a set or multiple pieces from one collection, I can create layered looks and more versatile looks.

*I enjoy dressing in monochrome looks. styling and layering different fabrics with same/similar color/tone can look so elevated and sophisticated.

*I enjoy the look of a long trench coat in a light fabric (I live in Florida), I think that it can look very whimsical.

*I enjoy styling a beautiful silk scarf in various ways; my favorite being around my waist as a skirt.

Great thread! Usually when the new year starts, I have a list of things I need to add to my wardrobe - new additions that I don’t have plus replacements for things that have worn out. Often the “new additions” are items that some stylist or influencer has said “Everyone must have a ______” - fill in the blank with blazer, moto jacket, perfect white button up, classic loafers, etc, etc.

But over the past year I have finally come to terms with the fact that I often don’t need or wear these “must-haves”. My life is very casual and rural, and I just don’t feel comfortable trying to be a fashionista at the local grocery store or walking my dog. I totally appreciate those that do dress imaginatively even on casual days but it’s just not “me”.

So for 2025, my budget really doesn’t include any clothes! I really do have enough and have decided to take care of the items I like most…like my best fitting jeans, I’ll mend using sashiko Japanese embroidery if they get holes rather than buying a new pair. Agree with others posters about fit! Good fitting clothes make all the difference in how an outfit looks, so I’ll either alter items that aren’t flattering or get rid of them.

My purchases this year will be more focused on accessories. Bags and jewelry are really the best way for me to express personality and add style to otherwise basic outfits!
