Inspired by Helena Morrissey, whose 2024 pledge was to buy only six pieces of clothing, I am thinking about my 2025 style vision. I browsed pinterest, pinning what I found inspiring. After two years where every stylist told me to add more color to my wardrobe, I finally found out, that I don't like colors that much. I like navy, black and ivory and I like red. That's it. So my style vision for 2025 is pretty conservative. And I am also thinking about just buying 5-6 pieces I really like. Do you have a style plan for 2025? And if so, what?

I think it's great you have a vision, set your limits and push back on other's views.

I also really like your moldboard for the incoming year

There are things I've had for years, hardly worn, and now I started to really wear. I follow fashion for my job, but when dressing me, I enjoy going my own way. I'd listen to stylists' advice, but it depends on whether I follow it, because many personal stylists work on commission so they'll want you to buy what you don't have already.

My aim will be to circulate things I have already as there are very few gaps in my wardrobe.

Mix '90s minimalism with a single '00s maximalist, statement piece for the rest of Winter.
Still wearing suits for work: Fitted or oversized jacket/blazer, tie or no tie, cufflinks, undone or rolled-up shirts. Skirts are pencil or mini, otherwise trousers (including wide). Suit jacket, raw denim, plain or printed tee (printed; the older, the better).
Summer will be centered of neutral, slightly faded dance-rehearsal clothes. Another look will be short or long slip dress, combat boots and straw boater.
All year: I'd like to use some of my more 'fancy' footwear more rather than just rely on DMs.

I haven't got to AW25/26 yet because I have to 'feel' it.

I'm supposedly a 'Bright Spring', but I don't often wear bright colours. I have started to buy and wear brighter lipsticks which is a totally new experience. Basically, I still wear whatever, but I'm just more aware. I like unexpected colours together like brown and grey, metallic gold and charcoal, light-olive and smoke blue, brown and black, green and light navy, purple and aqua.

Below, the pics are styling prompts, but sometimes because I have those pieces. My looks will be a bit more 'undone' than these pics suggest, but I do wear hat all year round.

What a cool thread to start.
@papertiger , I am always amazed by your style and styling and find it unique, inspirational and sound. I think I even remember a few images you posted.
I am lamenting getting inspiration from fashion mags like I did in the 80s, 90s and 00s. Studying editorials, models, make up and hair, the vision, looks that swept me off my feet, not attainable by any means but simply inspirational. I miss that and feel that a quality of life has been taken by their absence and also the closure of many stores around.

Thank you :flowers:

Losing myself in a magazine was like visiting another world when I was growing up. Most no longer 'invest' in creative editorial at all anymore, you can literally see there's very little budget and very little thought. I just bought January's British Vogue, and one of the 'stories' was disappointedly the same as in December's US Vogue. I can recommend Wallpaper though.

Do you have plans for what you'll be wearing next year?

Like OP, I have admitted to myself that I generally don’t like to wear color. I want to:

- Wear mostly black, with the occasional touch of white or red/pink.
- Find interesting pieces: textures, shapes, etc. I will still probably be in jeans + sweaters most of the time but it would be nice to have some options.
- Take my time to find the right thing whenever I can.
- Donate the clothes and shoes I don’t wear. I feel guilty, like I wasted money, but lightly used items will be appreciated by people who need them and I can make space in my closet for things I will wear.

Wonderful thread- thank you @poulinska I did not think about a 2025 style vision till I read this- it needs serious consideration.
1. wear less jeans, more trousers and skirts.
2. More visits to the tailor for light adjustments. (already do that and is a game changer.)
3. No mindless perusing in fast fashion shops. (a little is allowed…but set time limit)
4. More reflection time and less than IG (I do think IG can affect one’s brain in adverse ways. You can pretty much tell how much time one spends on IG by the way they are dressed.)
5. Regular reflexology sessions- love them so relaxing and improve posture.
6. More Hermes - that’s my weakness.
More to come once I think about it properly.

Thank you for your answers. These are very inspiring for me!
@ladysarah I also plan to go to the tailor (especially with too long trousers and also to the cobbler
@papertiger - I love your moodboards! Especially the 'rehearsal' is so inspiring, thank you! I also discovered, that I have most of the items I bookmarked in my Pinterest Board

For me it is important that fashion won't solve my problems. In the last years I sometimes bought things because I thought they would help me be more successful for instance. But I think it confidence comes from within. That said, I like being dressed nice, but it shouldn't come from a place of frustration.

This is a fantastic thread!

At the beginning of every year, I have a list of the basic things I’m going to need during the year(and I wear bespoke and follow the international collections).
Casually I dress in off duty ballerina type looking clothing most of the time..most of my clothes are black.

I bought far too much in the last 3 months of 2024(unlike @papertiger i don’t have a vast wardrobe , although I don’t really have gaps, I’m just minimalist, and a classicist).

With this in mind, I’m setting myself the near impossible task(my best friend is both a shopaholic and an enabler), of a temporary clothes ban, where I don’t buy clothes at all for a while.

As we go out browsing regularly this will be very difficult -in addition there are a couple of suits I’m trying to resist buying.

My overall annual clothing budget is higher than 2024- I just need a break during which I shop my own closet.

If I succeed, when I allow myself to go shopping for clothes, hopefully everything will be a success , and I May repeat the ban again during the year.

My Mum is very ill, so this is about the only area of my life where I can exercise some control, as I cannot make her better, however much I would love to…

@cecchetti if you really want to keep a shopping ban, you need strategies. I think, if you keep browsing with your best friend it is almost sure that you will fail. Maybe you can switch to other activities?
Not necessarily , as she shops in high street shops, and I wear either bespoke, high end designer wear, or brands only available online (like Skins).
I get vicarious pleasure from her shopping, but the shops she shops in don’t have clothes which fit me, and aren’t my style.
I’m more likely to fail if I’m overtired and forget the ban and buy something online….

I am the same. Most things in most stores don't entice me beyond the odd basic (usually found in the men's depts. I really enjoy shopping with others and helping them choose. I have to stay away from the stores that I do like, which similarly are not on most high streets.

Same with visiting another world, relishing models, photographers and stylists. I will look into Wallpaper. Thank you for the recommendation.
For 2025 wide leg pants, T-shirts, cardigans, comfortable euro sneakers, perhaps, I can learn to be a savvy vintage shopper like my children 😁. Would like to find a nice blousy jacket and more linen pieces.

Good topic! Style vision for this year:
1. Continue to focus on avoiding weight fluctuations and maintaining a stable weight/size as even a few pounds more or less can alter the way clothing fits and minimize the available choices in my closet. I was better at this in the first half of 2024 but fell apart in the last quarter due to family weddings and prioritizing other work over maintaining health and fitness through exercise and balanced meal portions. Hopefully I can regain the discipline and consistency this year.
2. Focus on good fit: I’ve noticed that I favor a slightly looser fit, like one size larger because comfort is everything. But perusing through my photos made me realize that good fit is essential to style. I could see the difference between the outfits that were a size too big and those that fit perfectly. Perhaps I will have to keep the loose, comfy tees and oversized jumpers/cardigans for lounge wear and hanging around the house only.
3. Things I’m liking this year: a crisp, sleek, tailored look in pants, paired with cotton eyelet blouses and tops in spring, shift dresses and fit and flare dresses paired with white sneakers and sandals as the weather gets warmer.
4. Colors: Navy blue, white, cream, ivory and maybe very small touches of red here and there.
I’m also drawn to green this year all the way from shades of pistachio and apple green to a deep emerald. I will have to shop for maybe 2-3 things as my green garments currently only include coats and blazers in a dark green (similar to Celine’s box bag color Amazone which has been on my wishlist forever).
I have no idea if these colors or styles are trending but it’s what I want to wear this year. Burgundy was my favorite color this winter but I’m already looking ahead to spring.

Great vision for 2025! On #2, what about looking for clothing in your size that is meant to be looser? The proportions should be better for your frame, which might alleviate the fit issues you are noticing in photos. On #5, kudos to you for choosing what you want to wear! If you look and feel good, then no one will care whether the item/color is trending.
