One of my faves! I hope one day to be as lucky and as radiant as you wearing it! [emoji7][emoji8]
It was definitely luck. All I can say is: when a weird urge strikes you to check eBay right that minute, go ahead. You will look awesome in this, JD!!

Now that I have everyone's attention, should we revive our discussion of what grails we are all still pursuing? Or does that make resellers raise their prices? Maybe we could talk in code? LOL.

I am still in search of Mont Sainct Michel, but prices are already so inflated I don't think I will cause a panic in saying so. And a Turandot, duh. I've been at this long enough to feel that things happen at the right time. Sometimes. We must take the long view!

Anyone else want to put their grails out there for the universe to find them?

Wishing you, and everyone else, Hunter's luck!
Mine is the same - Noel in dark blue/light blue cw, as in my avatar.
but i am not in rush, i have it in Gavroche, and in blue/washed blue cw, so my hamster is kinda ok...
one more i am after is listed with 2 trusty sellers, and price is pushing the clouds, so i am not in a hurry either...

You know, now that my scarf fever has subsided a little bit, I've rationally decided that I can't spend more than what I can spend. There have been a few occasions where I pounced on a grail at an astronomical price because it was so rare but to be honest, I didn't feel as good wearing it because of the guilt and worry about having spent $XXX on it. So now my philosophy is that even if a grail is for sale, if it's at an excessively high mark up, I just won't consider it. (C'est la Fete at $900, for example.)

That said, I still have SO MANY GRAILS.

Turandot (naturally!) And in that slate and orange cw that lanit has, ooooh, ahhhh! (Also, I wish H would do a Year of Opera as a theme)

C'est la Fete as mentioned above, in that light blue or the one with red boots.

L'Art du Temari in orange or navy or ... I can't decide, too many beautiful cws! I'll be happy with whichever makes it around my neck first!

Domes Celestes in purple or blue

Graff scarf or shawl in purple

Hippopolis in pastels (why didn't I jump on this in the store??)

Jungle Love shawl in navy and purple

Mors et Grommettes shawl in that sumptuous dark purple and fuchsia! Yum!

Offrandes d'un jour in purple

Pointe d'Orgue moussie or 90 in blue

Sulfures 90 detail in blue

Tohu bohu in momasaurus' cw and the plum one and there so many other cws of this I love! And shawls! H, just hear our prayers to bring this one back already, please!

Tous Les Bateaux Du Monde 90 in neutral (thanks to MYH for showing me the subtle beauty of neutrals!) or in that popping cobalt cw, because I'm still a ho for pop colors at heart!

Anything moussie.

So many more, but I can't take all this scarf-lust! Must go roll around in my scarf pile now.

Wondering, what is 'overpriced' for a 90 cm silk??
One of my grails rates at 550-600$
But i see some go completely bananas and hike 4-digit numbers...
How do you make a tough decision, if you pay over, or pass??

It varies from scarf to scarf. The best thing to do is to follow the scarf listings for a while to get an idea or to do a search for scarves that actually sold. Some grails absolutely go for above retail especially in pristine condition. I paid in the 600 range for several of the popular grails and 700 for a few. Some I got lucky and found for closer to retail price. I have never gone to the 900-1000 range. I have a hard time thinking that any silk 90 is worth that.

"Overpriced" will always be subjective, of course, but this post of marietouchet's helped me a lot:

Your Grail Scarf

In particular, her observation that "Rencontre Oceane went for obscene prices a few years ago when it got talked up, now, no one cares any more hardly."

My grail mantra now is: Patience, grasshopper. If Rencontre Oceane fever settled down, so will most others eventually.

Also, I look at hunting-for-grail-at-good-price as a pleasure--years long, if necessary. It's nice to have something specific to search for on the bay and other places, instead of just aimlessly browsing. Makes the process more relaxing and takes away some of the itchy-trigger-finger pressure to buy something you know isn't great for you but is at a good price.

Someone else -- frou frou, maybe? I can't find the post now -- recommended holding out for the exact cw and size you want. If you settle on another, you'll very often find yourself still hunting for the first one anyway. Not true for everyone and every scarf, of course, but in general, a wallet- and closet-space-friendly policy.

Hold out for the design and cw you want, at the price you want, and enjoy the hunt. It has become for me almost as much of the pleasure of the grail as the having of the grail itself.

I definitely agree with holding out for the colorway that you really want.

For me at least: I found that paying $50-100 extra to get what I wanted in good condition now saved me money in the long run. I stopped looking and being tempted by other things. I felt satiated and my buying really dropped off. I found all of the scanning to be quite dangerous to the wallet.

Please remember, the first post from OP is to talk about what's your grail scarf/scarves, don't turn this into negative tone about price. We all agree that price is subjective, we don't want to hurt some feelings here, either buyers or sellers, especially some people do pay a lot for their grails. Let's keep this on topic, not to bash resellers, etc.
