Hi all!! I recently (about four months back) got into collecting designer purses. My first "brush" was an LV small croissant bag I got for my 16th birthday. My mother had always had an appreciation for "life lasting" accessories, and had convinced me that the splurge was always worth it. She was also an immigrant, and LV symbolized to her the American dream of luxury and good living. (Shallow? Some may say yes, but I say, to each her own!)
Because of the impression that my mother left on me, after my first post-college job, with my first semi-adult paycheck, I bought the LV Speedy. I loved these bags, and they will always remind me of my mother and her love for LV, but I never truly caught the "bug" from these bags...
But my first adult (post-law-school) purchase, and what really got me addicted to purses, was a Mulberry Bayswater (silky snake in cinnamon) which I scored on sale on Net-a-Porter! I loved the leather, the smell of it, the weight, and the feeling that I had bought something that might out-survive me... And maybe I felt my own piece of my mother's American dream... And it has been nonstop love for bag shopping since... (It happened last November and has been followed by one Chloe Elsie day satchel in sandstone, and one Chloe Elsie evening bag, medium sized, in black. I am self-banned until post-Christmas Mulberry sales, and then it may be another Bays!!!)
Part of my addiction is that, with these recent purchases, I envision passing these beauties on to a daughter (who I don't even have yet, hehe, but someday...). Does anyone else have this?
All this said about myself ... What were the bag or bags that first got YOU into collecting? And why? I would love love love to hear everyone's stories.
