The MK SA at a mall I work at likes to push as well. I get that you want to up your sales but...I just feel they should work on customers finding the product they really want and will enjoy. Spend more time on that instead.

Plus, they don't like to actually let customers try on. Few times I've been there with my friends, I've noticed that they don't let some customers try on if the customer isn't dressed well and look like they have the money to pay for it..

Just ugh..

I understand that this is bad for customer service, but I also understand how they might not want to encourage people who just want to play dress up.

This is just stupid. Sometimes the people with the most money to spend actually dress like they don't.

This thread reminded me of my Dad's buying habits. He'd always carry/pay cash and dress like a total bum. Whoever was nice to him anyway got his business. The car dealers were the most entertaining of Dad's victims. :)

Well, since we are talking about shopping situations...I think the handbag saleswoman at Lord & Taylor is getting disgusted with me. Instead of her usually enthusiastic hello, she gave me more of a grunt the last time she saw me (when I bought a cute little Kate Spade). Maybe I'm being paranoid, but it's like I'm afraid she's thinking, "oh look, it's that junky again."

+1........this is so true and sometimes I'll go shopping looking like a total schlep so that the salespeople will leave me alone. Any salesperson with good sense would give everybody the same level of service because you have no idea how much a person has to spend. Some of my friends go to the mall looking like they stepped out of a fashion magazine and don't have a dime in their pockets but SA's are tripping over themselves to get to them!

I went into MK today and the sales woman told me their hardware had 14K gold in it!! I kid you not. After laughing, I told her she was full of it. Unbelievable!!

This thread is leading me to wonder what kind of training, if any, the MK SAs receive. Seriously, to either not know what kind of hardware is on the bags or to lie to a customer about it is a training issue. The MK SAs should be trained on their product (ie the difference between gold plated and gold-filled!) and on customer service and appropriate sales techniques. It appears they may not get much of either.
