At the Michael Kors store! I took my Madison E/W Swingpack out shopping with me today and went into the MK store while I was out. The salesman was very complimentary of my purse (I sort of got the feeling he was hoping to soften me up for a sale) until he saw it was a Coach. Then he was like "Oh, don't carry Coach ever again! If you want to be cool, carry Michael Kors!" Yeah, I have some MK bags too, I just didn't happen to use one today.

Now I went into 2 Coach stores today and needless to say, they felt very differently about my bag, lol.

And no, I didn't buy anything in either Coach store or the MK store. :p What I did buy was a pair of Vince Camuto boots and Mayim Bialik's new cookbook.

Good grief! If it makes you feel any better, I was at the mall the other day, wearing a MK bag, and when I was in that store, no one there even recognized it.....and it was from last Summer. I wonder how long some of them have been fans of the 'cool kids' brand.

I don't think that's an MK store thing. I think it's a one really stupid MK SA thing. Most smart SA's don't insult a woman's choice of handbags, and they realize a woman who carries a Coach purse is someone who buys quality goods, i.e. a potential customer.

I would've said, "I'm not trying to be cool. I'm being classy." :)
I've carried either bag to either store & have never had an SA make a comment like that. That's just awkward.

I agree it was the SA. The original compliment felt insincere to start with, like he was trying to make conversation and flatter me in hopes of making a sale. The woman working with him wasn't much better either.

When I was in the MK outlet a couple weeks ago, there were all kinds of Coach bags floating around there and I don't think any of the SAs said a thing about it.

Interestingly I had the EXACT opposite thing happen to me. I was carrying my dragonfly duffle and a MK associate went so ga-ga over it, she made sure all the other associates too notice. She wispered to me something to the effect of "I wish we made bags like that!"

You just had an ill-mannered associate!

I am under the impression that the MK SAs work on commission...you would think they would be very careful not to insult you as a potential customer. The most important this is that you love or like the bag a lot...if not, recycle it and find a new bag that works for YOU! Maybe he should have taken the opportunity to show you something that may function the same way or in a similar style?

I've encountered some very pushy SAs in MK stores. They usually make me feel uncomfortable. By contrast, Coach SAs sometimes tell you when they don't think a bag works for you.

Im sorry this happened to you. I've never had a pleasant experience at MK, I usually shop MK online or at Macys for this reason. I find that their stores often have like 10 sales associates on the floor and each one makes it a point to ask if I need help and make small chit chat. I understand it's their job but it makes me feel uncomfortable when I just want to browse and I'm not looking for anything in particular.

+1.

I once went in carrying my magenta Isabelle, & the SA asked me if it was an outlet coach bag bc that's what most coach shoppers buy.

How rude! I think they have a company wide issue with the type of training they get (or lack). Im sure there are some great MK SA's out there but Ive yet to find them...

My experience with the MK SA's have been the worst. So pushy. Once, the girl was so pushy about adding on a wallet, I told her I didn't want the purse and walked out. I was driven mad!
