After watching and reading countless experiences about dying Louis Vuitton Vernis I decided to give it a go. It was quite a success in my opinion, so I started researching about dyeing Empreinte but to no avail. Nobody seemed to have tried it. Eventually I concluded that it had to be possible as I found one thread about a professionally dyed cosmetic pouch.

I have seen far too many Louis Vuitton DIYs turned into DiWHYs so I tried to be extremely patient and careful. What do you think? Do these look awfully ghettoish to you? Some of you might be aware that these styles were never produced in Amarante or Noir, but I tried to comply with original designs as much as possible!

Sorry for the bad lightning, there will be no daylight available for a while (Northern Europe). Both bags were bought just for the sake of this little project, but were really cheap as they had seen better days. The nice lady who sold me the Citadine Pouch even gave me a huge discount after hearing what I was planning to do with it. :flowers:

That citadine pouch looks amazing! The dye looks so saturated and even and it looks so shiny and fresh now, great job. What does the inside look like? We're you able to keep it clean or did the due bleed thru?
The vernis also looks wonderful (definitely made it more wearable in my eyes) but the citadine steals the show for me.

If I remember correctly, at least one other TPF member successfully dyed their Empreinte pouch from a color to black and shared that with us in a somewhat recent thread.

Thank you! I hate to admit but I totally agree with you. The Spring Street was a success but the Citadine made me question my own eyes ("can this really be the same bag?!"). Not sure if I'm going to keep the Spring Street but the Citadine will definitely be a forever bag for me. Not going to sell it even though I've already had offers.

The inside looks like this:

I dyed the zipper with a black textile marker from both sides. Somehow I managed to keep the inside spotless!

Wow, that is really impressive! I would love to hear about the process

Threads like this is why i joined TPF!! yes please let’s hear the process!

The process is quite simple really.

First step is to prepare the leather. Then you just dye it with as many coats as needed. Let it dry overnight. Then apply a sealant, let it dry again and voilà, you’re done. All these steps are necessary and skipping prepping or sealing will most likely result in a huge mess.

What kind of paint did you use ?

This is ingenious! The heaven of stained vernis leather! Is the process and the dye you used for vernis the same as for empreinte? And what colour did you use for amarante?
Sorry for all the questions but you did an awesome job! Enjoy your lovely pieces!
