I live in a subarb of Vancouver, and hardly anyone but me has coach bags here. If anyone does, it always downtown because there are 2 stores there. Fake LV's are waaaay more common on the teeny-boppers here! So are Guess bags. I see coach bags waaaaaaaaaay more when I go to the States, I guess because of the outlets.

Same goes for Toronto. I do see Coach but mostly when I'm downtown or shopping at Yorkdale or Sherway Gardens. Most people in the suburbs don't carry Coach, I mostly see nine west or tommy hilfiger. I think it definately has to do with the fact that we don't have any outlets in Ontario, just two Coach regular Coach stores.

i live in wales, swansea and i have NEVER seen anyone with a coach here EVER! Thats because there probably isnt any Coach stores in the UK. Maybe in London but its like scarce here.

i brought my coach from Singapore so even when i carry my bag, no one really knows its designer or give a hoo-ha!

Which i dont mind really.

haha. everyone around here carries real Gucci bags as i live in a town full of old rich ladies, and Catherine Zeta Jones grew up here.

me too! when i was at the mall last saturday, i saw a lot of girls with COACH especially the siggie ones... i am the only one with a plain leather ;p i even saw a li'l girl ( i think about 12 or 13 ) using a siggie pouch and her mom is buying the holiday patchwork shoulder bag hehehe! but i saw one lady with an LV speedy ( but i think it's fake) i didn't see the lock thingy

I agree. I believe it was a combination of marketing strategy and more fashion forward (signature, stripes) lines. When I was in a Coach store, another customer turned to me and said, "If I'm going to pay this kind of money, it better be all leather." I have always been commited to only buying leather classic styles and have unfortunately also seen the a change in quality and thickness of the leather in newer bags than in my older ones. But I am loyal and hope Coach continues to provide a quality bag that stands the test of time.

I go to beauty college and a lot of the girls that come in to get their hair done for cheap are from low income families. Everyday I see tons of coach bags...all fake! So far I've only seen one girl come in with a real one.

I disagree, I was just at a hockey game in Mississagua the other day and about 15 coach purses passed me, meanwhile I only saw one other LV other than mine. It amazed me how many were carrying coach.

On the subject of 13 and 14 year olds with expensive bags.... a couple of weeks ago I was at a department store looking at....purses of course. This mother came in with her daughters and the one that looked to be about 13 pointed to a Dooney and said that she wanted. The husband came up and the mother told him that the girl wanted this Dooney and that it is about 165. He just looked at it and said she got a Coach from christmas, she didn't need another bag. Well, this all sounds well and good until the girl throws a fit and starts talking about unfairly they treat her and her dad reminds her of the coach she is carrying right now. She looked him dead in the eye and threw the coach bag in the floor and marched off and went and sat in the floor amoung the "other" purses on the floor. Her and her sister sat there making smart ass comments to their dad and telling their mother that she can't let this happen. Ok, the most shocking part of the story... the mother then goes over to her husband and tries to talk him into the bag. When he continued to say no she walked over to where the girls were sitting in the floor and told her not to worry that she would talk him into it.
Seriously, how messed up is that??? Both of the girls had newer coach bags and they both looked like crap. They obviously made no effort to keep them in good shape. Furthermore, the mother was carrying a cheap purse. What is up with the world???

Wow, some people are spoiled beyond belief! Thankfully not everyone who carries a Coach purse is so immature.

Recently there has been a huge interest in designer brands of all sorts, especially among young people. Young people often find that Coach's prices are more reasonable compared to other brands, and it is often a name that even a brand-unaware parent has heard of and remembers as good quality.

Combine that with the fact that there have been more outlets built and Coach has been running full page ads in many fashion magazines, and you have the recipe for a surge in the brand.

Fortunately, almost no one around here carries a name-brand of any sort, so they still aren't common here. But in the only semi-upscale mall in this state? They are ALL OVER.

If you go the malls in Long Island/Queens it's pretty bad over here too. It's true, every teen/tween, ghetto queen and everyone else in between has one. My first Coach bag was a camel leather duffel when I was 18 and I LOVE it. I like some of the sig's but I don't want to buy because everyone else has one. But that's mainstream for you. There's A LOT of LVs (fake mainly) floating around too which makes me not want to carry mine sometimes..but mine is turning much darking and the leather looks completely different so it's alright. How can you stand out froma crowd...you sometimes can't.

And the whole blowing up thing...of couse when one spoiled litter girl gets it...all of her friends go home to mommie and daddie and want one too. And then it never stopped. You would think the price increases would stop them.
