My vote for diamond earrings.. you can always buy the coat another time.. diamonds will stay with you for a lifetime

The coat!! You can't go wrong with burberry coats, it's a classic that'll last you ages. I think a good coat is more outstanding than earrings as that's the main component of your winter outfit. Also not a fan of inside out hoops and they are easily substitutable for other earrings. I recently got my first investment coat from burberry and I love it so much, so I'm biased though 
Five years ago, I got a Burberry white winter puffy coat (it's cold here in Chicago!) and I STILL get compliments on it. I'm DYING for a Burberry trench to wear in the fall/spring.

(I also feel that while you can never have enough jewelry, you probably do have enough jewelry. I usually rotate between three pairs of earrings at a time, so I like having other things instead too like nice evening shoes or a couple of great party dresses or a great everyday handbag.)

The earrings! Coats come and go in fashion while diamonds are an investment! I've learnt that from my mum who always used her salary to buy jewllery because they last for a lifetime - no expensive bags (just regular leather ones), no expensive clothing, just jewllery and furs! When I was younger (in my teens) I told her why not buy 5 pairs of CL's instead of one necklace and she told me "I'll keep the necklace for ever, while the shoes just for a few years". I now thank her for that (I'm her only child, so we get to share EVERYTHING!!!!

I vote for the earrings. You can wear them year-round, whereas the coat can only be worn certain times of the year. Diamond prices seem to keep going up lately...if you don't get them now, who knows what the price might be the next time you are considering them. I feel like jewelry is more of an investment than a coat. The earrings will last a lifetime, and I can see diamond inside/out hoops becoming a classic someday.

I have neither, but I do have a Max Mara trench and I love it, but I don't wear it nearly as much as I do my earrings (18 kt yg studs from Tiffany). It might be because I live in LA and it isn't trench coat weather much of the time, but I'd get whichever you'd get most wear out of!
