Would you ever let your 12 year old borrow your designer bag?

"Im 16 and carry a chloe paddington - i think it depends on the person but 12 is quite young 15/16 is more appropriate." HauteCouture15

Hautecouture, out of curiosity, who paid for your Chloe?" Did you or your parents?

I read through (most of) all the pages of replies to this subject and just want to add:

A twelve year old's brain is not fully developed. Even though they may *seem* mature, they don't have the life experience or the brain maturity to handle many situations that come second nature to a 17, 18 or 20 yo. They can forget things, get distracted or react to a new situation in an unexpected manner.

If you loan or give an expensive item of *any* kind to a 12 yo, be prepared to not see the item again. That's just the nature of the age.

Kids at that age tend to be more clumsy and capable of losing things. I remember I lost my lunch bags, wallets (w/ some money in it too), jackets, umbrellas, and even get lost on the way home! I'll wait until she gets to HS or college to allow her to touch my bags. :p

Moment of clarity...

I asked my partner if he thought that giving a child a designer bag could make them materialistic and he said;

'If they ask for one, then it's already too late...'.

:laugh:

Funny! For the record, no I would not but I don't loan my bags to anyone I don't care how old they are. That said, my daughter who is 11 got two Coach bags of her own for Xmas and I feel comfortable knowing that the bags are of good quality and still age appropriate. We all have to know our kids and be aware of the values we want to nurture. I don't think there is a set answer for this question.

I have let my fourteen year old borrow my bags. But, she has proven that she can be trusted with them.

And, I have to admit, I did buy her a Juicy Couture Daydreamer tote when she got her first straight A report card and her first period in the same week! She was thirteen at the time.

I received my first LV at age 40 after obsessing over bags since I was a little girl. I think you need to "climb the ladder" of bags to really appreciate the higher end bags, the quality, status, price and resposibility involved. That said, if my 3 year old at age 12 was as obsessed as I was I would have her save for a DB or Coach and try to teach her to value and appreciate such a wonderful item!

NO. I won't even get into the appropriateness, or lack thereof, of a child carrying an LV (which is what all of my high-end bags are). I simply would not allow anyone, let alone a 12-year-old, to borrow any of my expensive bags. Ever.
