I do have a lot of bags. All different styles. Although I can understand the temptation to buy two of the same wonderful bag, my taste is so varied that I know I will always find another bag to enjoy!

I have the chance to buy a handbag from a brand I like for very cheap - we're talking around 50% off the retail price. It's brand new. The only problem - I already own it. I have been wrestling with this decision for a while now and thought I would ask your advice. These are limited edition runs. The bag is beige and grey leather, so I wonder about its longevity. I really like this bag and am tempted to get another as a back-up bag. But is this hoarding? It's hard to justify the expense when I already own the exact same bag. And at 50% off it's still not a super cheap price, certainly not cheap enough for me to purchase it without further thought. It's more of a fun style rather than a simple classic, so I wonder if by the time my current bag gets worn out or damaged if I will still love it as much as I do now.

What would you do?

I personally wouldn't do it. You can always send your bag to a good bag spa to make sure it stays in good shape. I would get a bag I'm super in love with in another color but the same bag? I wouldn't do that. You can get an entirely different style altogether. Are there any other bags you're in love with at the moment?

I wouldn't do this.
Usually, by time something breaks, a new style or (improvement on old style) has popped up.

I observe quite a bit of "sale mania," both on tpf & irl.
Unless item on sale was desired @ full price, then simply bought discounted, see no point to this.

I knew a woman who kept "back up pair" shoes, same designs as being worn.
Problem came with quality lasting, so back ups sat there. Wasted & unused.
Then, her feet changed size with age. Bummer. :(

Hope this helps.

Thanks ladies, I think I needed someone to tell me this was a crazy idea. The thing is - I was wiling to pay full price for it, so now that I can get one for half price, it feels as though I should do it. But it is also silly, especially when they're exactly the same!

Principesse - what is a bag spa? I've never heard of that before... (I'm also new to leather bags, so only just starting to learn about how to care for them properly.)

I used to have a decent collection of shoes that I love and this happened to me. My feet actually became a size smaller (somehow...) as I aged. I can no longer wear them and am now extremely hesitant about buying expensive shoes.

I also wouldn't do this. I'd rather get a different bag that fit a different need. Sales can be tempting, but I never buy any items that are too similar to what I already have or that I wouldn't have wanted to buy at full price just because they are on sale.

However, if I know something I want to buy at MSRP will be going on sale soon, I'll hold off until the sale.
