Why so many Birkins available on the resale market?

I am wondering if this explains why we see some many job adds like this recently. This one is from Facebook.View attachment 4966328
I'm sorry but this makes me SO angry.
these people call themselves 'personal shoppers' but they're not.
They are hustlers-Profiteers stopping people like us from being able to buy bags from a brand we love directly by sending their minions out to grab them so they can turn a profit by re-selling.
I bet they have multiple profiles in different boutiques as well.
So so angry about this.
I know its all about supply and demand but it upsets me that this sort of profiteering goes on.

Thanks for this thread. I was also curious about this considering so many bags are easily available online. I would rather get my dream Kelly directly from the Hermes store but it seems to be quite an exercise. I am enjoying the experience since I have connected with a nice SA.

Bravely said. Bravely said indeed!

My 2cents.

I do believe there is a subset of buyers who buy bags to flip them. They may pose with the bags on Social Media and sell them to their followers.

People may purchase hard to find bags to resell them on major reseller sites with a big mark up. I see it in particular with mini Lindys. They were listing at ~$12K — and those bags did not sell. Even at ~$10K — they still languish. That’s the risk part of the equation.

What boggles my mind is 25 Birkins and Kellys now go for ~$22-25K. 20 Kelly’s are $27K. And these bags sell. A person can stand to realize a gain of ~$10K when they resell. It’s a powerful motivator. Buy a bag for $11K, sell it for $27, $16K total gain, $5,400 (20%) to the reseller site, buyers net gain is $10,600. Granted, this amount is at the top end, but you get my point.

If you have routine access to Bs and Ks at Hermes, and get prized bags easily. I can see why people would do this.

From my perspective, I am grateful for my quota bag offers. I will not resell them until they have had years of use, but no longer suit my needs.

Buying from resellers during the pandemic has become routine because Bricks and Mortars (and H.com) stores were closed from March through July and artisans were furloughed too. So demand has not stopped, and supply had dwindled significantly. Many luxury vendors have way more customers than product. Inventory is limited at VCA, Cartier, Hermes, so people choose to get their “luxury fix” through resellers.

We’ll see what happens after the Pandemic ends....

My favorite consignment shop listed a b25 with receipt. The receipt shew the bag was purchased less than 1 week before.
I was surprised they shew the receipt, because even hiding the name it would be easy for the H boutique to find out who got an anémone swift b25 a few days before.
I always wondered why people don't have the receipts anymore from their 3 months old bags :-D (call me naive). I'm clearly keeping the receipt of an item that's more expensive than a car.
I understand to purchaser wants to protect himself from being banned. But doesn't that refrain purchasers (so does it for me)?

If the buyer was recruited to buy it and couldn't care less about H it makes sense to provide the receipt.

The SAs don't care about resellers. I told my store about a local reseller that buys from their boutique and they didn't care. They're still selling quote bags to him. As long as the reseller buys other things and isn't in a huge ring of resellers, they turn a blind eye to it.
