Why I no longer buy yellow gold

I just love yellow gold. My favourite. I always think white gold looks like silver, especially in diamond rings, although do like silver too in its place. I don't mind mixing the metals as I have a beautiful Longines watch that is both yellow gold and white gold, which means I can wear silver with it as well.

I prefer platinum. Given how insanely cheap yellow gold was in my youth, I had a lot. So my e ring and wedding ring are platinum with yellow gold accents so that I'd be able to match some of my old pieces. Gold was about $290 per ounce back then. Needless to say, sold most of my gold when it increased 5 fold. Perhaps it's that association with the extreme price difference (I could of had a much bigger diamond if I did not insist on platinum) or how rare it is compared to gold and silver, but platinum just speaks to me. I still have gold jewelry but for investment pieces I prefer platinum (wedding set, diamond studs, right hand ring).

I'm fair skinned, with black hair and blue eyes. I only wear white gold/platinum/sterling silver. I find that yellow looks weird on my skin, and I'm resisting the rose gold trend.

I'm Chinese and yellow gold just clash with my yellow skin tone. And in my mind yellow gold is also a bit too old fashioned. I much prefer rose gold or white gold/platinum. I think white gold/platinum looks best when I dressed more professionally for work, and rose gold jewelry looks better with some of my more casual weekend outfits because of the copper tone.

I love both! I like YG for the winter and WG for the summer with a tan.
Plus I'm one of those crazy people that matches my bag HW to my jewelry. [emoji15]

:hugs: Preach! I've missed you, sorry I've been off the forums for so long (work/life/lame )
I tend to wear more WG - I do think it looks better on my generally. Then I think because you have more pieces in one type of gold, it sort of becomes a self-perpetuating cycle.

That said, I certainly appreciate the aesthetic of yellow gold and rose gold juuuuuuuust fine, so I do have a few pieces here and there. I struggle a bit with mixing metals but I'm sure I can get over that :p

Don't be gone so long! :hugs:

I mix metals as well. Prefer unplated 14k & 18k white golds because they work well with my skin tone. Always a fan of 14k and 18k yellow. Recently added some sterling in the mix.

I mix metals too. I prefer 22k gold for yellow gold, and it looks good on my skin tone. I know it is seen as retro, but it is still the gold standard (haha) for Indian women my age, and I am most comfortable in it, and am also more visually drawn to seeing yellow gold on other people. In my hometown, the gold buyers won't even look at your stuff if it's under 18k, and they don't take white gold.

Very interesting! I was in Portugal a month ago and 22k is very popular but since I am not familiar with it didn't want to buy it, however it is very pretty and classy.

I enjoy yellow and white, and what drives my selection is actually the piece itself. Some pieces look better in either metal. I also think that WG gives a more casual vibe which can be great, depending on the occasion. I have also found that I enjoy my yellow gold more if it's matt finished rather than shiny. I also happily mix and match - with pearls thrown in - and am getting more relaxed about it as I go.
