Why Goldman Sachs Believes Coach's (COH) Turnaround Is Alienating Consumers

I had something similar happen to me. I bought a bag for full price, revealed it here, and some commented that the bag would be going to the outlets soon. As tempting as it is sometimes to wait a bag out and possibly score a better price, I had no guarantee that would happen, so I figured I had better just get it if I really wanted it that badly. Heck, I remember when Coach had their Semi Annual Sale, some were already talking about waiting to see those bags go to the outlets in hopes they would be marked down even more, as if getting 50% off wasn't a decent deal. Some of those bags did go to the outlets, but they were still only 50% off as far as I recall. It was slim pickings by that point. I like a good bargain as much as the next gal, but I wouldn't diss a person for paying full price if they really wanted the bag and didn't want to risk missing out on it.

No diss here. Those who pay fp can enjoy the bag sooner, during its current season. I used to be one of them. Those who buy outlet must wait longer. My closest fp store is almost 3 hours away so I really have no choice but to be an outlet only customer, as I have an outlet I can walk to. For awhile I tried ordering fp by phone and online, but it's very difficult to know if you will like the bag when you can't look at it for real. The outlet SAs started giving me attitude about all the returns so I stopped ordering from fp. But seriously, if you have an outlet close by, go check it out! A lot of the Bleecker collection is there now and it's TDF in my opinion. Especially at 50% off or more.

I'm still picking up outlet deals from the past few seasons. I like some of the new items, like Crosby and Rhyder, but I am not likely to order from fp since there are no stores nearby where I can see the new items in real life. I used to order from fp quite often with pce when I lived in Maryland. I have no desire to buy these bags without a discount. I'll hold out for a SAS or some kind of end of year promo.

+1 you got it!

Here's the thing imo, if it's something one does not want to miss out on, one should buy it. If one is pleased by picking up whatever stuff makes it to the outlets, that one should keep shopping outlets. Not everything makes it to every outlet and some items actually never make it to any outlet. I say buy what you like and can afford.

Sometimes you have to pay fp to get what you want, when you want it--especially if you want pristine condition. :p

+1. I Iove FP and the outlets. And I think it is awesome when people score great deals. I have said this before, everyone has different budgets and priorities. I think it is always exciting to get a new bag, a new discounted bag or a new bag to you!

As someone who shops FP more than outlets, I really am not in it for a deal. I love getting a deal, but it is a mistake to assume that is everyone's measuring stick. I work a lot of hours and my time matters more.

No one likes getting screwed over either and being played a fool. But goodness, if people are happy with bags whether full-price or discounted, then AMEN to the bag gods that make people happy.

If people choose to wait for sales, awesome! If they don't, awesome!

I am sorry to hear TPF members leaving over this issue. That makes me sad. There are many wonderful ladies (and men) on this forum and if you love Coach, then enjoy and celebrate every purchase!!

They need another hit like the Carly or Sabrina and then keep it around for awhile but with different colors and fabrics. Kind of like MK and the Hamilton. They did good with Phoebe but I think they released too many colors too quickly. Gotta stagger things and leave people wanting more.

I just got a black leather Carly from ebay and love it — why did they ever stop making this bag?? It's the perfect medium size with just enough style not to be boring. I'm definitely going to get more. I wish I could buy them new!

Understandable. There weren't huge differences in SAS prices to outlet prices on some items is if I saw something I liked at SAS I'd just get it. Saving $21 on daily for example is nice, but is it worth possibly missing the color you want? For some with huge collections it may not matter or if it's your favorite style and color it may matter. Nobody should ever be condescending to another about the price the other paid. If it's not your money, who cares what they paid?! Lol

I don't post as much as I used to. I don't hunt Coach as much as I used to either. It's both sad and good for me though. I miss the old days on this forum at times, but I still get that with some of the older members on a scaled down basis in another forum now so I'm good.

I agree with what you said. It's sad that people are put down to make others feel better about themselves.
Scaling back is a good thing. Buy what you love and use it. Not because its cheap.

When I started buying Coach, in 2007, the first bag I bought (at full price store) went to outlet a couple of weeks later. My friend told me she saw it (and didn't frequent the outlets)...I knew nothing about the FP vs. the outlet...but I learned fast. This has been going on for years and years...nothing new.

In fact, during the "heyday" of the outlets, there were all of the gorgeous 2006/2007 legacy bags for incredible prices...I mean...great. I should have bought a lot of those, but couldn't afford it.

They had the Gigi in all colors, the Thompson line, the shoulder bags, Mandy, and Luci and Lily and all of the accessories...I don't know that we'll ever see prices that great again at the outlets...

Oh man, Coach was its own worse enemy - they devalued their own product. Back in 2007, I wasn't buying any expensive handbags yet.

wow, I wish I was buying Coach then.

But even though they were sending bags to the outlets quickly, back then most people didn't live near an outlet. Other than Las Vegas, outlets weren't put in the same areas where there were full price stores. Coach outlets weren't drawing customers from the FP stores. Now they are.

So true! I've been buying Coach since 2000, and the outlets did have deletes back then, but it was not like it is now or a few years ago when you could score some smoking hot deals on past season. TBH, it was almost exclusively leather at the outlets!

Also, I remember the years when outlets were the ones that weren't busy! I shopped mainly at the FP stores because the selection was better. I stopped buying for a little while, and of course it was around the 2006 Legacy line came out, because I had my son and needed to be more frugal, I never even thought to see if the outlet had those bags, not to mention, there weren't any even here where I live. Now, I have 3 to frequent.

I remember those good ol days! I was going back and forth between Camarillo and Santa Barbara outlets scooping up all the legacy bags lol
