Why do u spend thousands on a bag?!

I can only say that it's because the bags I like cost that much.

^ Same here! I never go shopping with the sole purpose of buying bags that cost so much but all of the bags that catch my eye and that I gravitate towards happen to be in the thousands range. It'd definitely be a lot easier on my wallet if I loved bags that were in the hundreds range but unfortunately that's not the case.

Honest Opinion-----I am a bag snob simple as that ! I deffo think a good well made bag doesn't slip off your shoulder like a cheap one does, this is a tried and tested method of mine. Also there is something about a designer bag hung over your shoulder or sat on it's own chair next to you in the pub.My eyes are always drawn to the name on a bag and the owner soars way up on my credibility list immediately.I HATE CHEAP BAGS ! Sorry to be awful but if you were a cheapo baggo you would be unlikely to be reading this would you ? Please bear with me this is only my second post and I so want to be joining in all your discussions.x

I'm not a jewelry fan, so bags are my primary accessories. Also, I prefer bags that never go on sale. I would totally rage if I paid for it full price and saw them with a red tag somewhere.

there are not just articles on "how ugly LV bags are", for every one of those articles, which are just opinions of one person, theres twice as more for coach and what not. there are so many hermes and chanel bashing sites as well. there are areas that dominate a particular brand, but again it's not just LV. Many brands copy LV styles, and to carry one does not make one to be uniform and slavish nor does it make one materialistic and shallow. I just bought two LV bags this year and they are exceptionally made, and I haven't found a bag as beautiful as I the one I purchased in a long time. I especially like that I've never seen someone carrying the same bag, and in my area there are many an LV carrier, just like a coach carrier, just like every other brand. I only have a couple of bags, and I wear them all with pride and knowing that in 20 years they will still hold up, which is rare. I'll be able to hand these bags down to my daughters. The small leather goods quality are exceptional. Nothing I've had has held up like my LV's. I always find it funny when people target specific brands, it just shows how little they know about each brand. LV doesn't only just make a speedy and a neverfull. For those who hate on LV, I dare them to first carry a bag, see how it wears before they point a finger. There's a reason LV has lasted this long.
I really like what you said ! One man's poison is another man's meat ! I don't won any designer bags. The few bags that I have are leather bags but they serve my purpose. The reason why I am on this forum is because I would like to purchase one this year but I haven't decided on one. I started looking at LV and now move to Chanel. I learnt quite bit this 2 months - reading their range, both LV and Chanel. If you don't mind me asking, which 2 LV bags did you buy and what other LV bags do you have ? I personally like the Canvas Monogram but I have 3 very young kids - so I am worried about vachetta. As for the Damier Ebene - I like Trevi and the Speedy. Do you mind sharing your thoughts on your LV bags or other that you have and loved ? Thank you...

i read every post on this thread, and i agree with every opinion said. I read them almost as if each post would justify for my bag purchases.

I no longer buy things because i need it. If i absolutely 'need' a bag, a $10 or a $200 bag should suffice right?? but no, i ventured into LV, Chanel, Gucci, Burberry, Dior, and ultimately i want a Hermes and i justified them as 'needs' when they're absolute not a need. And why?? I used to say I don't know because I don't want to admit it.

I think the real reason i spend thousands on a bag is because i'm just simply vain. I just googled the actual meaning of 'vain' and this came up:

"Vain
excessively proud of or concerned about one's own appearance, qualities, achievements, etc"

Hard to swallow but i think its true in my case. Had a discussion with hubby last night, I asked if i can purchase the birkin when we visit Paris next year? and he said "We're planning for a baby after the world travel. That bag cost around about $8k that could easily stay in our savings account to prepare for our baby's arrival". And deep down, i know he is absolutely right, yet, i feel a bit sad that I will not be able to purchase this bag. Why do i want it so much? Vain gets the better of me. Don't worry, i won't buy it. Baby plan is wayyyyyyy more important than a birkin. The fact that i was even sad (still sad actually) just puts me to shame :(

Thanks for the thread Op. I was looking around for something like this to put me into perspective.
I really admire you for your honesty. I am a mother of 3 beautiful kids and nothing ....absolutely nothing can replace them. All the very best in your family planning.

Agreed, one makes many sacrifices for their children, but willingly and without question.

The rule at our house, for my husband and myself is "Buy the second best". It makes us feel better about not spending as much as we could have, yet we still feel as though we are buying quality.

I agree with BabyKat... you get what you pay for.

yup, I'm vain and I know it and don't apologize for it :sunnies

I think I spend hundreds ( haven't gone above about $750... Yet) because I like to be stylish and I'm too fat for designer clothes ;). I started with Coach, back when they were under a hundred.... Move to $200 Dooneys, and on.... Though one of my favorite bags is a $30 canvas mini LLBean tote! (and I have several sizes of Longshamp Pliage that I love)

As I understand it, a drug addict gets a supremely great high the first time, and then spends the rest of their lives trying to chase that high. And it is never as good, so they keep doing more and more.... I say this because I truly believe that there is an element of addiction for me, and probably for many of you. When I buy an expensive bag I tell myself I need, I used to say to myself... And I will never need another bag again..... Yeah, right! One of the reasons I am currently into LV ( other than they are very well made and durable and I LOVE the vachetta trim) is that there is a robust secondary market for them, so I can buy well-loved used ones and I can sell mine. Just become knowledgable about authentication....
