Why Do People Buy Fake Designer Bags Or Fake Designer Anything?

Not necessarily. Often it is the people with the most money who are the most frugal and don't see a value in owning a "real" bag when the replica is 80% of the quality and style for 1/20 the price.

after all, they generally didn't get rich by spending money. In fact, I've found the person most likely to carry the logo-covered, flashy, trendy designer bag is the person who is LEAST able to afford it, but the most interested in convincing others that she can.

Aha! I think you got a point there.

I have never seen a fake bag that I was tempted to get but I'm not going to judge others who do. One of my coworkers had fake Coach because she couldn't afford the real deal. As others said, majority of women who do get fakes, do it because they can't afford the real thing and I'm not about to make them feel bad and be selfrighteous about how "they are supporting criminals and terrorists". Some of the comments here are just so judgemental its insane

I agree. In Texas, we call this "Big Hat, No Cattle."=)

Of course, I don't mean this as a blanket idea. I think that people have to decide for themselves how to best spend their money and many don't choose designer goods, preferring to invest in other things.

Welcome to tPF! ;)

I know I've bought a fake simply cause I love the style of a bag. Not neccessary for the name. I've stop buying them cause they are of horrible quality (some even smell funny lol) at least the ones I've bought. Its the worst to own something you love and watch fall apart before your very eyes. So now I look for bag with similar designs(inspired) of decent quality. Looking for a birkenesque bag in some bright colors.

Honestly I'm not really bothered by this as long as i'm not the one using it. off hand i can think of a few reason: they don't know, they don't care, they don't want to spend the money (they may or may not have the cash to buy from boutique) ...

I think this is quite untrue. Many people who can afford any bag, choose a logo bag because they like it. I could have purchased a more expensive LV bag but I LOVE the speedy bag, and I love the LV monogram print, I find it pretty!

Sadly this is very true for me. I don't have a job but I have a crap ton of designer stuff, and on the other hand my mother has an "inspired Birkin". The reason I say this is that I buy all my stuff with my weekly allowance :S

So let me get this straight since I may have been doing this all wrong...

real diamonds=bad
real trendy designer bags that may go out of style and I will decide I'm tired of=good

LOL
Seriously though- there has been some great info and ideas shared on this thread, and it boils down to the fact that manufacturing and mining is rife with corruption...it's nearly impossible to shop 100% responsibly/organically/green and still have time to work and raise kids.

Just go out there and be kind to each other and live life according to your own values and priorities.

As long as we are living with moral integrity, we will be a light for others to follow. We can't be responsible for all the evil in the world.

Love this!

hmmm... honestly there are too many fakes out there which model wasn't even made by the original manufacture, they have beautiful leather, good price but pretend to be a brand they obviously are not

see this bag

this bag is made of good quality leather, too bad she pretends to be a Coach, LOL. I'd be happy to buy this bag if only there isn't Coach logo in there
