Why did they use YKK zippers on Vintage gucci bags..anybody know?

Every little component on a bag has to have a different machine designed and made to make them KWIM

Many bag designer/makers/manufacturers used the best component parts they could get their hands on with out having to buy in the specialist costly equipment including Gucci, Chanel and Hermes. It's not secret and no big deal, YKK made fine and strong zips.

Hope this helps

Is it just me or does anyone else notice a big difference in the zippers they use now compared to back then?

The zipper on some of my newer Bostons and D GOld Hobo are not as glide-friendly as say, my Blondie (which I think was YKK).

I have a Web Navy Supreme Monogram Leather Blue Canvas Cross Body Bag that has lost the zipper head and pull. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? The zipper itself is in perfect condition. Thank you for your help

A cobbler can probably fix this with a no name pull and head. Another option if you want an authentic head/pull is to look on ebay, tradesy etc and see if you can find a similar bag thats really cheap. Usually if they're trashed the cost is peanuts. A cobbler can take that bag apart for spare parts. I kept all of my vintage Gucci canvas bags because they are all still in fantastic shape. So glad I did because the Ophidia line looks just like the bags I still have. Good Luck!

Thank you, BagLady 3375! I hope I see a trashed one for parts. If anyone knows of one, would appreciate being alerted!!
