Why Buy Designer Sunglasses?

I buy designer sunnies as I automatically get more worried about them and treat them waaay better than cheaper ones! I also think they look much nicer than most cheap sunglasses and I would NEVER get fakes/replicas ofcourse. So that’s basically my reasons to get designer
I’ve had my Céline shadows for over 4 years now (and they’re still in pristine condition!), and finally got these Dior Reflected ones 2 days ago that I also really love:cool: I also must add, the case to these Dior ones is really sleek and compact so they don’t take up much space. And it’s possible to fold so it lays completely flat in your bag while your’e wearing the glasses:tup:A66D1BC1-B238-40FB-A743-DC87F77EE04E.jpeg

I like designer sunglasses because they last forever if you treat them well. I agree with others and dislike the bulky case that they are packaged in so I have used an Hermès perfume dust cover to keep them safely in my handbag. I do not buy them very often and believe that the cost per wear is excellent. The pair that I currently have has last me over 10 years. I try to purchase classic styles that suit my face and wardrobe for any occasion.

DH on the other hand small purchases inexpensive sunglasses because he loses them all the time. I am certain he has spent more than I have over the last decade comparatively.

I would really love your opinion on designer sunglasses. I have several pairs of cheap sunglasses - they get thrown in my bag (often without a case), left in the car, stuffed in a desk drawer and, if not in some obscure place, are often found resting on top of my head or carelessly thrown on my desk. I tend to lose things (Umbrellas, pens etc) and as you can see from my previous sentence, am not the most careful individual. However, as I'm flipping through my various vacation photos, my nice, cheap sunglasses seem to be in all of them! Not only that, but I find myself in nice outfits and expensive bags/shoes/accessories pulling out my $10 street glasses (yikes!). I went into a chanel boutique and tried on a pair that looked fabulous. The price tag had me staggering a bit but if I think about "cost per wear", I *may* be able to justify the purchase (provided they don't get lost).

So, for those of you who buy designer sunglasses, is it worth it? Why do you purchase designer over non-designer? Help me decide if I should take the plunge. Also, since I know nothing about sunglasses, what would you spend for a good pair? The ones I saw were $500!
Mine are Chanel and LV and I absolutely love them and would not buy cheap ones. To me it's about both design and quality and I think designer ones are worth it. I once read that cheap sunglasses didn't really provide the required UV protection so I am not risking my eyes for that.

Mine are £400 give or take. There are some really nice Cartier ones which are over £1000 it's a bit too much for me.

that's fine if you love your designer glasses and I agree it's worth it to get quality glasses. but they don't necessarily have to be designer. Ray Ban makes good quality sunglasses with glass (not plastic lenses). I'm sure there are others as well.

Agreed. Yes Ray Ban etc are good makers. I like the styles provided by Chanel and LV more. But Ray Bans are not $50 though, are they? So they are not cheap cheap.

you're right.....I think you can find them for around $100....Maui Jim is another quality brand. Not cheap but I think sometimes Costco has them for $100-$200

Another brand I know is Oakley as my SO used to have some from them. But they are also around £100 range. I guess moral of the story is don't buy the dirt cheap ones. Go for mid-range quality ones for good eye protection. Splash out on designers ones if you really fancy their styles.

I am also a fan of designer sunglasses. I do have a reputation for losing things, I have lost a pair of Juicy Couture because I took them off in a store and set them down. When I went back, nobody had turned them in. Had another pair stolen from a storage box at an amusement park, those were my Cole Haans. By the time I got off the coaster, someone had snatched them. I also lost a pair of Gucci’s in the Atlantic Ocean, I’m sure they are sitting in the bottom of the ocean somewhere. So, obviously I didn’t make the best choices in the past. Since then, I wear cheap sunglasses when doing any activities where I might lose them, or around a lot of people, since sunglasses are an easy item to snatch up when nobody is looking. Unfortunately, there are thieves everywhere. So now I am a lot more conscious about when/where I wear my good designer glasses, and just chalk it up as multiple lessons learned. It also helps me to keep my sunglasses case in my bag at all times, so if I need to take them off, they go in my bag safely.

Maybe before you splurge on a $500 pair, get a middle of the line brand such as Coach or Ray Ban. Use them for 6 months, if you don’t lose them or damage them, then splurge! Make it a little test for yourself to keep up with them. I snagged a lovely pair of Coach sunglasses at TJ Maxx the other day. They were only $36, likely last years’ overstock. But they are super cute. Just make sure you buy a case for them, because usually stores like TJMaxx don’t include the case. I did find a Coach case while I was there too. I don’t know why, but they sell the cases separately, for around $6. And Ray Ban Wayfarers are available in any color you could imagine, and are a staple (imo) to anyone’s wardrobe. They never go out of style.
