u must have missed the bopped in the head...or worse. ppl have gotten killed for less. no need to make myself a huge target.

damn that bag. my concern is my own safety

I think such purchases become showpieces.
Within lighted cases.
And never see a dance floor or walk with a good dog in sunny parks.
So are not out in world. Or even seen much.
Sad.

However, saw diamond-encrusted car in London.
So some people use such items.
Very sparingly. With paid guards nearby.
Still sad, imo.

Not my choice for living well.

yup. that's exactly where mine would be under lock n key haha. WITH insurance. and probably an armed guard or 2

but yeah, not really tryna drop 300 stacks for an exhibition...unless it's a Picasso or something...not that I have 300 stacks to drop on a bag...or anything for that matter lol

Someone bought it so they must not only have the means, they must have the security to own and or carry such a bag.

Heck, if one had unlimited funds to buy whatever one desires, I'd do it.

It doesn't surprise me that it was an HK auction, there are plenty of people in Asia with disposable income and a taste for the bold.

I'd like to see an action shot of this bag, it would sort of be a shame to just be in a glass case, after all that craftsmanship.

Why do people spend money on anything? Because they can. I know my Mom's family was a bit - well, not frowned upon, but looked at in a certain way - because they drove around in Mercedes limos and flew their Learjet and helicopter. Business was good and money was pouring in. And their family company owned a tanker, too, because hey, why not?! (Bonkers.)
If you have money, put it to use. If you have an insane amount of money, just try to put it where it's not completely wasted.

If a person spends $5M on a jet, $1,5M on a boat, $20M on a house, $3M on a ranch to house their $1M worth of horses, $1,5M on a couple of cars and $200K on a wedding ring, a mere $300K on a bag doesn't seem like much, does it?
Exactly! It seems that people think everyone is pinching pennies. Some people aren't. Some people are affluent. Some are rich and some are freakishly wealthy!

What is unfathomably expensive for Mary may be pocket change for Beth!

I'd think if you have the money to spend 300K on a purse, you're probably already traveling with security.
+1 It's no different than travelling with really expensive jewellery. Celebrities on red carpets wear jewels on loan from Cartier or Bulgari or any number of jewellers that have security watching at all times for the duration of the loan at the event. More than likely the bag is insured and the new owner already has some form of security around. And I highly doubt the bag was bought to be used on everyday errands.

I remember Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton leaving their house in Gstaad, Switzerland to go to another country for a photoshoot (can't remember where specifically). They called up their child's tutor to find some earrings to send over. The tutor went into the unlocked bedroom and found all of Elizabeth's jewels in a heap on the bed (even the famous ones like the emerald Bulgari necklace and the Mike Todd tiara). None of the staff knew about the jewels being left out like that and it wasn't as if the chalet was secured at all times either. When the tutor asked Elizabeth if he should keep the jewels locked up somewhere, she said not to worry about it because no one knew it was there. Can't say the same about trust and security today.

While it may pain us lesser earning mortals that huge sums of money is spent on seemingly frivolous items and without much care, it's really no one's business how others spend their money (unless it's illegally gained).

This ground breaking news is just amazing. It just goes to show how much power people have that one would ever know. The luxury market is just so fantastically mysterious!!!
Whoever the source is they got lucky, and whoever the buyer is, so so lucky. I guess that's the thing, fashion pieces like the Birkin are indeed more precious than gold.

Amazing turn out at the bidding. Simply amazing!

If they have the funds, I guess, why not?

But I'd be more afraid of getting it wrecked, though I suppose I can assume if one can buy something at the price point... they could probably afford repairs for it as well.

Sounds a bit burdensome to many. I think it can also buy the worries that come with the bag (safety, theft, repairs, and damages etc). Congrats to the buyer!

Heard about this, clearly someone really adores the bag or they wanted the 'status' of owning i believe the most expensive one...

I like bags, but admit if i had unlimited funds that would not be my purchase for that sort of money.

I just find it hard to believe that the skin and quality stitching and hardware could be worth anywhere near that amount of money. I would never judge someone for spending a crap ton of money on a bag....if you have that kind of disposable income then by all means....do what makes you happy. For me personally I think there is s line somewhere...you are no longer buying a bag but a status symbol or a name. And I just can't imagine those things ever being worth more than a few grand, much less $300,000. I hope whoever bought it enjoys the heck out of it!

Hypothetically speaking my answer is no. I don't love handbags that much and for that type of money I would prefer other things. However, I would see the world most likely differently if I had that lifestyle so I can't 100% say no. I love to collect handbags, so I could be tempted.
