This is such a bummer to read. I'm sorry to hear that about your bag -- actually, all of you who have had experiences like this...I SOOO love the way the bag looks and wanted to hear good things about the Rhyder! It LOOKS like heavy, substantial, good quality leather, so it's really disappointing to hear this about this particular style. Plus I've seen so many gorgeous reveals in beautiful colors. Argh. What is Coach DOING??!!! Actually, Jane -- exactly what you wrote -- they're lowering quality and raising prices. :(

Well, at least my bank account is safe from the Rhyder. : /

So I "slept on it". I had the Rhyder sitting on my dresser next to my gold Phoebe. This morning I picked up both bags. The phoebe leather feels soft, substantial, thick, and luxe. I then reached for the Rhyder. The leather is thin, dry, not nearly as soft... I was not wowed.

With these prices and no PCE, a new bag has to be something I can't live without. The style of the Rhyder is good, and the color is perfect, but the materials feel, I'm sorry, cheap. And how in the world is this a $495 bag while my gorgeous gold Phoebe was $358??

Alas it will go back and I won't buy Coach sight unseen anymore. I need to be able to touch and hold before I commit.

Oh no :( sorry it wasn't love, but I'm w/ u about being extra choosy these days. I still want to check rhyder out in black though.

Thanks for advising on the quality of the leather on the Rhyder and everyone else too, I'm now wondering about the quality of the other SV bags :confused1:

I don't think there will be any issues with the leather on the other SV bags. Honestly, I could tell from the preview pics at the beginning of the fall 2014 thread that the leather on those particular Rhyders were just 'ok' but this is the version of leather I'm hoping the large tooled leather has. This is a close up of the mini cross body version and I think the leather looks fabulous on this one. Those with the Rhyders now will probably be able to see the difference. I'd love to hear your feedback.

I was wondering about the leather on some of the new bags as well. I am not buying any, but whenever I see pictures the leather looks off to me....it just doesn't look as nice as previous Coach leathers.

There was another reveal of this bag and though the bag looked good on the person wearing it, the leather did not look good at all.

I loved so many elements of this bag in the pics you posted. And of course, you rock the bag for sure (but then again, if you put a shoulder strap on a freezer bag, you'd rock it....You look fantastic, girl!)

With that being said, I have to pipe in that my Olive Turnlock Carlyle is sitting on the shelf in her dust bag, waiting for one of a few, specific things: 1) FALL and my reopening the dust bag and feeling the wow and pow of not being able to live without Ms Carlyle (which hasn't happened yet); 2) FALLING off my collection list because I've been reopening the dust bag, looking at her and I feel each time now in similar ways to what you've described.

More specifically, the leather is very thin and while I wonder if it's made that way so it doesn't wrinkle or crease on this slouchy hobo (???) the leather doesn't feel like Coach leather. (It reminds me of some pleather bags I've seen in the Vera Wang fall collection at Kohl's??) And while the turnlock and shade is lovely, I'm just not feeling it. The fact that the C-logo lining, used frequently in MFF bags, peeks out when she's sits -- well, that's not helping me feel the love, either. I'm thinking I'll return her, even knowing that I could repurchase her at Macys this weekend for the 25% discount (if if if I've read about the upcoming coupon correctly).

Thx for the informative and well done reveal....I truly appreciate the effort you've extended, having done "a few" ;-) off these myself....Let us know what you might be getting instead, if you do send this teal one back. I'll be waiting and watching !:-)

Thank you Prof!! I always love your insightful input.

I do have another small item on its way -- a black small Urbane crossbody, which I got a great deal on Bonanza. I visited one at FP last weekend but balked at the price even though I really liked the leather and the design. I was lucky to find it for $100 less gently preowned.

So Coach is still making a few very nice quality items, but speaking to the newest things -- the Carlyle, the duffles, and the SV designs -- I am super underwhelmed!!

Its so disappointing too because I just love these SV bags. I'm still waiting on my 32 and 33 in hopes the leather is better than my 24. I am doubtful though after what I'm reading on here.
