Brandoff HK is one of those reputable preloved goods stores in Hong Kong. I’m surprised they sell counterfeits. OP, sorry to hear about your story and hope you get your refund sooner.

I don't know any better, but I generally think that even the most reputable stores, and heck even a boutique itself, can be infiltrated by scammers. Nothing is perfect so even if Brandoff is reputable, they could have unsuspectingly been scammed themselves or something... just a thought. I don't think it means they are bad, everyone must just be willing to work together to find out how the scam (if any) took place.

I personally think even a reputable reseller can sell a fake and not realize it. Especially if they are large enough to be dealing with a high volume of bags. There are numerous stories of people returning fake merchandise to stores to get refunds and then selling the real merchandise on ebay. Obviously the fake merchandise was convincing enough to trick even the SAs and most likely SMs. I realize this is more publicized with LV. Who knows who may have ended up buying the returned fakes! I can't even start to consider that or I will be too paranoid!

A few years back it was revealed that all the Prada bags being sold by Costco were actually fake. I'm sure people would expect that something bought at Costco would be reputable. I know there was a big story as well of actual former Hermes employees working to make fake merchandise. I'm sure the quality would have been excellent. That is why the only way I trust to buy bags this expensive is directly from Hermes. For me personally, someone remotely examining photos who can't even touch the bag is not enough authentication.

I sent my first Birkin to Paris to repair the handle, which was splitting, and give it a general once over. I dropped the bag off at the end of October. I was told that due to the holidays it could be a slow response time. I didn't even get a quote until mid January! They told me beginning of March that my bag was ready and should be on its way back. I'm still waiting! Everything with Hermes seems to be a lesson in patience. I hope they are faster about getting the OP his letter.

Indeed. OP’s story is really alarming as I trusted the expertise of Japanese resellers so much that I may not bother to get independent authentication opinions. Quite disappointed with brandoff as well.

thanks for some of the humourous replies! a slightly unrelated update but my other username Fingerscrossed has apparently been banned. I assume it's because there's probably some rule against having two usernames which is fair enough but it would have been nice to be sent an email telling me it will be banned. i only found this out as sometimes i use my email to login and sometimes i use my username to login and i keep forgetting Fingerscrossed is linked to my main email i use.

The bag is not being held hostage.

The OP will need to use her copy of the repair form that describes the bag, along with the eventual letter from H to dispute with Reebonz.

Has anyone ever heard of Hermes sending anyone a letter confirming nonauthenticity? Ever? This sounds completely far fetched.

An observation: The eBay forum is full of stories about alleged absent bags matched with vigorous demands for refunds. Sometimes, what's stated as a "scam" has a twist ending.

Yup, and in that Barney's thread I mentioned a page ago, that OP had at least 8 IDs, several of which she "talked" to and who "supported" her on that thread.
Did you mean th Barneys book? I think that dissertation stopped being a thread when it hit 40 pages. I read through and walked away dizzy AF...I will continue to play the Hermes game. Thank you very much LOL
