Hi guys. I’ve been wanting a Rolex for quite some time now. I don’t know too much about them Rolex. All I know is like the look of them and they are good investment But in comparison to Chanel are they better investment or worst? I know all there is to know when it comes to Chanel but when it comes to Rolex I’m clueless. Do they retained they value like Chanel classic flaps? Or when I get bored w the watch down the road I will lose a significant amount of money? The watch I’m considering is the Datejust w the Roman dial.
Sorry neither of these are investments. Get the one you love!

Edit:
I don't think both are "investment" pieces in my honest opinion.
My sister tried to sell her 2 years old Rolex "gold diamond date just 31mm" that costed over $16000 plus tax, full set purchased brand new from watch maker, like new condition as she didn't wear everyday. However, 4 of consignment stores offered lower than half price from original what she paid originally. Surprisingly $6700 was the highest in 4 stores. So she gave up to buy size 36mm and didn't sell her 31mm.
She sold her 2 years old Black Caviar Jumbo gold hw like new condition with full set, originally paid $6400, $5900 plus tax. She got offer the highest was $3900 from 3 consignment stores.
If she used both of these everyday, that would be ok, but she only used 3 or 4 times occasionally in 2 years and both were newer condition.

These luxury items are for enjoy using everyday for years to come, let's say at least over 10 years, then it would be great and worth to pay, I think. But If you wouldn't use often or get bored and sell later, these luxury pieces never meant for "investment" IMHO.

I also want to note that whether you sell a pre-loved bag or watch, the company that sells it for you takes a cut. Therefore, you will likely lose money. I never treat my
purchases as investments, but with all the price increases lately it does feel like buying now versus a year or two down the road, is sort of an investment.

I mentioned the insurance in my previous post, because I was purchasing Chanel bags and SLGs, and I was always worried my boys would ruin them or they would get stolen when I was out of my home. My watch is insured, so if it gets stolen while I’m on vacation, I can get a new one. If it breaks, it can be repaired (for a fee). For that, I would suggest the watch. I’ve been a purse girl since I was 5, so my heart definitely flutters move over a bag than a watch. I hope you can get one now, and hopefully the other one in the future. Happy shopping.

I understands. I agreed. I always had my things insured. And I know how selling Chanel’s works. I sold many. The most I’ve lost is a few hundreds but that because I take very good care of them and have hard to get pieces. Just wanted to get more research on how Rolex world in comparison to Chanel.

May I help you with it..pictures speak a thousand words...

I must add if you are looking for investment Rolex is well known for that for their sports model

But the new j12 is solid as well very impressive. So depend what you like with Rolex. Go take a look at their variety and come to a conclusion depending on your Rolex preference

Very pretty. Thank you for sharing.

They both hold their value well but unless they are super hard to find, they both will sell for less than retail. But I buy what I like. Men's models and larger dials are more in demand, but I have a small wrist and I like diamonds and rose gold so I bought a Ladies EverRose/SS DateJust 28 with a MOP dial and diamond markers

Ur set is to die for!

I vote Rolex. I bought my date just with diamond markers in 2002. It was 8 years old at the time. I took it to a certified Rolex watchman to service and clean up. He told me I had a timeless classic and to wear it everyday and enjoy. I’ve since had it serviced and was told the same. My watch is a 1995 and has retained value and beauty. I wear it everyday. It’s not a trendy large size. It’s the classic women’s size from 1995. It would fetch more than I paid for it right now. I love my handbags, I have some beauty’s, but let’s face it, if you use them they wear out. Just my humble opinion.
That’s awesome. Which Rolex do u have? Mind shading pics. With my job my Chanel flaps don’t see too much sunlight that’s why I have ventured into jewelers for the exact same reasons.

Consignments are the worst way to sell I. I’ve sold many Chanel’s and only lost 2-3 hundred. That’s including Paypal fees, shipping etc.

If you are buying female model Rolex watches (ie the datejust), you are bound to lose some money.
How much you lose depends on the condition/year of the watch when you do decide to sell.
You can search on chrono24 for some ideas of the resale price range-- don't forget there may be consignment fees/brokerage fees same as selling Chanel bags via consignment stores.

My boyfriend bought his GMT II Pepsi preloved 7 years ago and doubled his money when he sold it last month. Part of the reason for selling was the service costs... the latest quote we had was £1000 and that was assuming nothing needed replacing.

There’s a difference between buying them purely as investments (ie to hold or make money) or just buy for your own pleasure. If you want to max resale, buy the bag/Rolex leave them untouched, keep it in a vault and keep them pristine. Anything else will bound to lose value esp if you’re doing sale via consignment.
A Target bag can do the same job as a Chanel and so can a quartz watch/phone for Rolex, no need to force yourself to buy luxury for the cool factor/resale, just buy what you enjoy.

Wat’s holding value now will not be the same in the future.

Not sure what you mean by "investment", but to me, they are not investments. If I buy a Rolex or a Chanel, it's simply because I like it and can afford it. My choice will be the Rolex, by the way.

Here is my watch. I can’t believe how much trouble I had taking a selfie of my watch, haha. I’m old and not too tech savvy. I adore this Rolex that I purchased pre owned in 2002. It really is a work horse.
