I agree! I wouldn't bother with an IF stone, it's not worth the extra premium. I'd sacrifice colour for size but I wouldn't go down to a J colour either. I'd go for something between 1.8 to 2.0ct around G colour.

Same for me. There is a middle ground, which will give you a gorgeous cut with a whiter stone. Don't forget that it is the cut that makes the diamond sparkle!

I voted for the larger J colored diamond, but personally I would go for something in between. My center stone is H color, VS1 clarity and excellent cut and it sparkles like crazy and looks very white to me.

I think many would get something in between.
Personally, I think 1.20 carat D IF would be a dream stone though. I would think of that as big (it would be big on my little fingers anyway. I don't have a small sounding ring size but I don't have much space between hand and knuckle and even a one carat looks very big on me) And I like icy white.

Though J's can 'face up' white, I like to look at my rings from the side and the color would annoy me. also, I think its something to have D IF -- I know some (not many but some) with over 2 carat stones but know no one with a D IF (one friend does have a D, but it's a VS) so I'd love to have something truly unusual. Though I do realize that with wear it would soon be D VVS!!

If it's a stellar cut, choose the 2.19ct! Cut is what makes the difference in the end - a J that is an ideal cut will look A LOT different from a J that is a fair or good cut.

My engagement ring has an Ideal cut J VS2 H&A (GIA certed) and face up, it is totally white - no hint of color whatsoever. My fiance put it in a platinum/18kt rose gold halo setting so you can't even see it from the side anyway.

If you are choosing to put the J in a solitaire setting or will definitely be showcasing the side, I would go with a higher color. But IF is a waste of money in my opinion.

I've read somewhere that
1. The more it sparkles the bigger it'll look.
2. Pple tend to see the sparkle 1st then the color.
3. For larger stones stay between D-G.

My ering center stone is D/VVS1/Sig Ideal Princess
My husband could have gotten me something larger with different specs
for the set budget but he didn't and I am proud of my ring bc it is more rare.

I have seen larger stones H and below and I can tell right away the color difference. I would choose the first stone. I personally wouldn't want a J color stone for such a large diamond. Good luck and let us know what you choose!
