I'd go with the larger stone unless you are particularly color sensitive. Many people will not notice the warmer tone on a J without something whiter next to it to compare it to. Plus, like others have said, with the excellent cut the color should show whiter than it actually is. And I would not pay for an IF diamond because eye-clean is sufficient for me.

I agree! I wouldn't bother with an IF stone, it's not worth the extra premium. I'd sacrifice colour for size but I wouldn't go down to a J colour either. I'd go for something between 1.8 to 2.0ct around G colour.

I totally agree. You could even go down to VS1 in clarity.
I'd go for something in between too.. But you don't mind the warmer J then go for it!!
Clarity wise.. to me as long as it's eye clean, it's all good! Not like I'm going to stare at it everyday with a microscope!

I agree- something in between is good. Also, I think if it is eye clean, that is all that matters. I like warmer stones and don't think that J is all that warm, but others do. It is personal preference.
Out of the two, I would choose the D IF. Why not go for the perfect diamond?

I have a 2 carat J and I get a ton of compliments. Can I see a tiny bit of color? Yes, but it doesn't make it look not beautiful to me at all. And I love the size.
I come across the situation that hard to decide...
There are 2 diamond that I will use for my e-ring.
here are the two diamond
first - 1.20 ct ,D color , IF
second - 2.19 ct , J color , vvs
Both are GIA cert.,round brillant, EX cut, Heart&Arrow .
and SAME PRICE
What would you choose??

I believe it comes down to preference. I personally like BIG, both rings sound like great quality, personally, my diamond is I SI1 color and I love the hue of it and it sparkles beautifully. It is clean to the eye and at this point I would not trade it for the world. BTW color has nothing to do with sparkle, CUT has do with sparkle, if you like a white color then go with the 1.2 because the J will have a slight yellowish tent. Good luck!

For the same price, I'd go with the J.
My e-ring is a 2.11 carat, J/VVS1. It does not look yellow at all, it's a beautiful stone.

For an engagement ring I would go for something in between, maybe F/G colour.
However if you have to choose one of these diamonds, I advice you to compare them side by side (maybe placed on a white paper) to see which one you like the best. Personally I think that I would find that a J coloured diamond has a slightly too "warm" colour for my liking but if it doesn't bother you get it!

I would definitely get a clear diamond. If I need to choose, it will be the 2.19 one. But I will go for something G/H colour, with at least VS2.
