I’d have to pull out my Lilac to confirm, but, during one of the early years, they really added on the tassels. I prefer the streamlined two-tassel pull myself.

There was never a season where Bal added a lot of tassels so I don't know what's going on there. My guess is that the extra tassels were added to the bag and pretty much all of them have split.
