Where to put lock and key on Birkin??

Gosh! This thread is a blast from the past. Just wanted to add as a few years have passed since my last post that you live and learn. Hanging the lock off the turnlock closure is definitely not a good idea as BBL stated above. It leaves a smiley mark on the leather and bangs around too much. I have also used Perlerare's method above but I ended up with permanent kinks in the clochette which are a pain to straighten out. I now just leave the lock in the little fabric bag, untill someone comes up with a better method.

Hi Syma :smile1:

I agree, I used to tie the lock and clochette around the handle (in fact my SA put it on like this when I bought several of my bags), but now they are both kept in the box at home. The lock can leave a smiley mark on the leather, the clochette can get kinked and the clochette has left silvery marks in an arc shape on my bags (including Togo) as it swings backwards and forwards when the bag is used. Better for me to not bother!

I don't like the lock on the closure because I loose the possibility of closing the bag also it creates the smily face effect and I do not like this I usually keep it on like you do when I'm not going to walk much if I am I take it off all together.Hope it helps darling.

My lock & clochette/keys are in their pouch in my dresser. I would never hang anything off of a boxcalf birkin - except maybe those soft wool pompoms. I do keep a lion cadena on the loop thingie, but it's in a position (& short enough) where it doesn't hit any leather.

I mix it up but mostly keep the lock in the turn key and hang the clochette on the back side of the bag w/ a cadena attached. I've gotten "smiley faces" with the lock in the turn key but they vanish after a spa day.

Here is how I tie the clochette and lock on my bags....

What a simply gorgeous Birkin and photo. Just fabulous!

It is an old thread, but the question is interesting to people who were not here eight years ago.
To address the question of the thread, 'Don't', seems the obvious answer because of the long-term smiley face.
I realise the clochette and lock are functional parts of the bag design, but is does seem that they could be seen as the original bag charms and I think there has been one in the clochette shape.
