When is it too old to wear pink and red bags?

I see where you and some of the other posters are headed with this. And I understand and respect your opinion. But, I couldn't disagree more.

So far, I've been cheeky and silly on this thread. Let me offer a more thoughtful opinion.

Bubblegum pink, sparkly silver, acid green, neon yellow... The color absolutely does NOT matter for age. I could halfway (not really) see that some styles may not be for a certain age but, I really can't see an age limit on color.

Any woman can look good in any color depending on how the style of the item suits her aesthetic. When I get older, I am not limiting myself to a blah rose / pale pink if I want a wild bright pink. I wear strong colors. A rose pink would be a poor add to my particular wardrobe.

And, while I would never wear a bag shaped like a panda or with Hello Kitty plastered on it because it doesn't fit my style, the Betsey Johnson's of this world are making those so called juvenile items work though they are aging Baby Boomers...or older. I say they should go for it and look up to their fierce approach to fashion. I won't mimic it. But I love seeing it! And am occasionally inspired by it to take a teeny chance in my wardrobe.

Additionally, color is cultural, taste, style, situation and personality driven. Saying I shoudk reconsider wearing a hot pink bag when I turn 50 is like saying someone in India must wear a white wedding gown to their traditional ceremony. We have arbitrary standards based on what you / we / she / he / I am used to. And of all the things on this planet, I think the one area we shouldn't feel bound by rules in is fashion. Certainly not someone else's rules.

Judging someone's bag color as too young for them? Nope. Never. It just may not be your or even my taste. You and I may even agree and think - what the heck! But they may look fabulous wearing it and we may be missing the boat.

So I applaud your classic rose pink bag, a middle aged woman's super huge fuchsia patent leather tote, and an octogenarian's hot pink alligator clutch. I bet everyone looks stunning in all of them. 😊

super post :D

Absolutely no age limit to wearing pink and red bags. We are supposed to have fun with colors. I believe more in wearing colors according to the occasion. I am 35 & I personally carry & wear a lot of bright poppy colors. I will continue to do so as long it makes me happy and brings out my personal style :D

In my humble opinion, older women do a few things better than younger women, and one of those things is red. Red is powerful, sexy, confident, and bold. It can also be very sophisticated and, again in my humble opinion, pink doesn't have the same capacity. Pink is flirty, feminine, and pretty. I love both colors but, as I get older, find that I am choosing red more frequently. Pink is a flirty bashful smile, red is a self-assured hello. These days, I'm more a self-assured hello, and I like it :).

So older women can't be flirty, feminine, and pretty?

I think such threads are really good because only through exposure to different opinions can we challenge our preconceptions and maybe overcome some mental humps that were put there by society/culture/family. I started the "too young for..." thread and reading it has been very enriching for me!

I agree and appreciate it.

I think it may be difficult when you're younger. If I wear certain things (bright color bag, dresses or skirts in non-neutrals), I'll get comments from co-workers like, oh, you can get away with it because you're young. The first time I heard it, it didn't bother me, but after awhile, I felt like people were letting my choice in accessories impact my credibility.

I didn't mind it so much when I was in fact starting out, but over a decade in my industry, five as a lead, and a Master's degree later, it's getting really annoying. I can understand why one might question if there's a point in time where something is no longer "age-appropriate" for them.

All that being said, I've realized when people treat me differently because of a brightly color mini bag, it's more indicative of who they are than me.

I know I can't pull off pink because I just don't care for the color. So I would feel odd wearing it, and it would show.

But it has absolutely nothing to do with age. I mean I wear my Pumpkin Balenciaga with
a skull zipper pull and I'm in my 40's. It works with my style and I don't feel uncomfortable wearing it.

I bought this preloved LV four months ago and I have to confess, I was questioning my age ( 42) as well.
So yesterday I used the bag for the first time, sun was shining, a beautiful autumn day and a fantastic pop of colour with my navy jacket.
No more doubts for me about the age
matter:)

When your mind can't bear to carry it.

I was self conscious carrying red and pink bag when I was young. Now that I'm older, mid 30s, I just don't care. I'm happier carrying my colorful bags. :)

Hmm personally for me it depends on the tone of the colour... If it was a bright neon pink then I would raise an eyebrow but rich berry colours are gorgeous :D

(no offence to those who who neon bags)
