When does an LV bag become a collectible?

Does anyone know why and when LV discontinues a handbag line? And is that when an LV bag becomes a collectible?

I think so... You are right. When it becomes rare, the value goes up triple, quadruple the price...

I feel like the limited quality factors into it, but also how badly people want it. The patchwork monogram bags were certainly limited and "collectible" at the time, but not any more.
