Agreed. I love unique one of a kind pieces not what everyone is wearing at the moment. This is a very interesting thread!
I love all types of jewelry. However, and this my option, and, mine only.
I love fine, high end jewelry. I own a few pieces myself and their lovely. However, growing up in Los Angeles, we had/have what is called the “The Jewelry Mart”. It’s literally miles, and miles of jewelry booths with competitive prices and opportunities to design 1 of a kind pieces.
What rubs me the wrong way is if all of your jewelry is not “name brand” it’s not as valuable? That’s what I’m seeing and hearing and that’s just not true.
As an young adult, I was able to acquire many pieces of jewelry ( and still have some of those pieces to this day ) from The Jewelry Mart over to time has become very valuable and still beautiful. And, whenever I desire a new piece, regardless if it’s diamonds, gold, or sliver The Jewelry Mart is the first place that I go to.
Okay, I’m off my “soap box” ! Thank you for allowing me to get that my chest!
Exactly! I bet your custom pieces are beautifulAgreed. I love unique one of a kind pieces not what everyone is wearing at the moment.
And I loooooove custom made jewelry made specifically for me. Recently had some calligraphy diamond jewelry done, it’s both beautiful and unique.
Me too! I had my daughters ears pierced when she was like, 6 months old. I was happy to buy her beautiful little gold and diamond studs; she looked so adorable wearing them.I have a jewelry confession: in my culture, nobody thinks twice about piercing a baby’s ears! I didn’t know it was taboo in other cultures. I kind of understand why now, but when my first was born at 33 weeks, they recommended not to pierce her ears. I had to go back to the hospital a couple of months later with the tiniest baby earrings for them to pierce them. My younger left the hospital with the biggest earrings for newborns I found!
I don’t know any girls that didn’t have their ears pierced at birth, the only ones I do are foreigners.
Here, we don’t think twice about putting jewelry on our children. My eldest had a gold bangle until she started playing volleyball, and wears a necklace every day.
My youngest doesn’t like jewelry except for her earrings, so she doesn’t wear anything else.
My unpopular jewelry opinion is that I like earrings on babies. I know it’s shocking in some cultures.
This post resonates with me. As a medical student, I volunteered at a healthcare festival for low-income uninsured patients and a woman whose husband was volunteering came in with an Hermes Kelly. It didn’t feel right to me…I am guilty of this since majority of my jewelry is Bvlgari. lol. Thou I love the idea behind the pieces that I paid for and how cohesive they all go together, such as the Parentesi or B.zero inspired by Rome ( my first study abroad and I love the city) or the Serpenti ( since I am snake year in the Asia Zodiac). I do have pieces that is non branded or estate over the years, but I wear my Bvlgari the most.
I also love matchy items. I usually wear like a matching bracelet and ring, thou I do stay minimal and not like 2-3 fingers for rings each hand or 3-5 bracelet stack on 1 arm. maximum 2 bracelet the most.
my unpopular is that people doesn't take in consideration of the economic environment, the surrounding or the occasion when wearing jewelry. I went to a charity event where you actually handing out food to people who is struggle, and this lady just came in head to toe designer. She did do a big donation but still, it a bit tasteless when 1 of your pave Cartier bracelet equal a year salary of the poor family you are handing the food out to.
I can think of one add that says "buy yourself a damn diamond' tagline hahahah.I’m all for buying yourself stuff but I wish they’d let up with this obvious consumerism is feminism lite crap.
I was reading about a brand only the other day and it actually said ‘in 2013, women started buying themselves jewels rather than waiting for men.’ This alone was so ludicrous I instantly got turned off their products. Please stop trying to sell me trinkets under the guise there’s something political about it especially with such a blatant ignorance of social history - it’s so annoying.
Also +1 on wet thread bracelets though they are nice as anklets.
Me neither! My unpopular jewelry opinion is that I don't really like Victorian "hair" jewelry. It's creepy.
Anything with dead people or animals body parts is creepy!!!My unpopular jewelry opinion is that I don't really like Victorian "hair" jewelry. It's creepy.
2.5 years later I need to come back and say - actually, I'm starting to quite like the look of VCA alhambra nowI agree with this.
Other dissenting thoughts:
I adore my love bracelet and am super sad that it doesn't fit at the moment (pregnant).
I don't care for VCA alhambra or dior rose des vents.
I like some Tiffany jewelry - none of the sterling silver, but I do like several items from the T collection. I think several items from the Victoria collection are absolutely stunning as well - just out of my budget.
I really get ur point there are so many beautiful gemstones out there but you also have to keep in mind that except for emeralds, diamonds and corundum minerals such as rubies and sapphires are the most durable when it comes to jewelry. Not sure about you but I’m hard on my jewelry and wear them daily without taking it off sometimes for months straight(shower, beach, exercise, clean, cook...)I think that there are so many beautiful gemstones out there that are rare. Why does sapphire, emerald, and ruby have to be only precious gemstones. Everything else is semi-precious.
Also I can't stand diamonds. If I ever get engaged/married I want a colorful gemstone.
