I am in agreement with you 150%...as a H collector I find it extremely frustrating and disheartening with all the protocols set up to purchase a Birkin...Kelly...etc. at my home store least alone at another H store while traveling home or abroad. When I want a new H bag & find it via a reputable seller I now purchase it, it surely beats the "Quota" spending waiting & disappointment at any H store! Geez I could be 90 or spend lots of $$$$$$$$ waiting for my Holy Grail H bag at their store!
First-time poster here - hello!

I completely agree with this sentiment. My first H bag (a 28 Kelly sellier in box Rouge H, contrasting stitch, PHW) was bought from my local store in the days when you made an appointment with the SM (SAs were for unknown walk-ins), went in and sat down for an hour with the coffret to specify exactly the bag you wanted. “Quota” meant whether her order list for the January or July run to Paris was already full or not (it rarely was, even for a B or K and rarely for local clients to whom she explicitly gave preference over tourists), but even if it was full, this just meant being on the “waitlist” until the next 6 monthly list was open). If you were unknown to the store the SM would steer you towards a more “marketable“ bag for your first order - you were under no obligation to actually buy it when it arrived, so she did need to consider how it would sell off the shelf at least in principle. So, no exotics on your first order etc, but otherwise the sky was the limit in terms of choice. Because I ordered a contrast stitch for my K it was classified as a “SO” (even though all bags were individually ordered anyway). Of course, one then waited 1-4 years for a B/K to to arrive, but at least you had the bag you wanted without having to play any games and what’s 4 years when you’ll potentially use and love the bag for decades to come?

How things have changed!

The premiums in the reseller market rarely (if ever?) exceed the quota spend I need to maintain to qualify for quota bags and scarcity is not an issue most of the time unless I’m being highly prescriptive about what I want. So for me it’s a mix of store, H online and reseller and I don’t mind which way I acquire my chosen bag.

So interesting, thanks for sharing!

Without going too far OT, I should say my wonderful first H experience was only 20 years ago and obviously before the reseller market (and HSS) emerged! I’m not sure how unpopular this opinion really is if we’re all being honest, but I hate playing the game now. I’m buying a bag. I buy bags to keep (hello Gucci Tom Ford circa 1995). I know what I like and I’m loyal. I want to know ALL my options in a given store on a given day before dropping 4 to 5 figures on said bag, rather than gambling on whether something “better” is lurking out the back before I actually pull out my cc.

I don't like the gold on gold leather and hardware combination. :wtf:
When I got it I was so happy and excited but I never use the bag. It's just not me.
I always lean towards bags that are cool toned. And the gold on gold has such a warm vibe that it literally clashes with me.

I’m with you on the gold on gold. Every YTer recommends the gold on gold combination that I feel like I should like it, but I just can’t, I find it too warm and too mature (for me) no matter the style of bag.

@WhiteBus I too disliked the 24/24 until I saw it worn by someone on this forum and based on that tried it..
I still like the look but however found it too impractical in terms of closure and the limited opening (due to the 'plank' design) to decide to buy it.
I do however still admire the 35cm when worn by others.
Unpopular opinion (or maybe not) The ugliest relatively current Hermes bag designs to my mind are:
The Toolbox and The Transat Sailor bag.
Both are just so ugly to my eyes I wouldn't buy one if offered for £5!

Likewise, I've been waiting for almost a year now with no luck with any quota bag. H makes it too difficult to play the game!

I bet you would - think of the profit made when you flipped it.
That was a wicked, mercenary thought, unworthy of an Hermes enthusiast.

Similar to seeing things in context.
There can be a lot of negative vibe about the large H clasp on Constance.
(I hated the the decision to use it on the 38mm belts)
in photographs it does look large and dominates the look of the bags
but in use, in real life, unless you know what you are looking at, you would not think any more of it than another clasp.

I do not deny the difficulty of acquisition, but:
Games have rules; there are no rules - therefore there is no game.
True, IMHO not all games give joy to everyone. If you're happy with doing the H dance, that's great. If not there are many other designer brands who will happily take your money. My take on it is, the harder you try to play the game, the more leverage you're giving to Hermes, hence it's an unpopular H opinion, and I'll probably move on from spending more.

I will take all these bags ahead of the one that looks like a waste paper basket though.
