What's your FIRST designer bag you ever bought?!

In the '80s, Liz Claiborne was all the rage. I was in high school, around 14 or 15, and was thrilled that my mom was willing to buy me my first designer purse! (I'm sure it wasn't considered "real" designer, but to me and my circle of friends in the middle-class Midwest, it was!) It was a little beige shoulder purse with the distinctive Liz Claiborne triangles printed all over it.

I just did a Google search and found a picture of the exact bag on Etsy. I was SO tickled to have this bag since it was by far the nicest thing I owned. Ah, memories!

High-five, sista! Liz Claiborne bags were IT!!!! I think about a year later I got my second LC bag -- a navy one with little upraised triangles all over it. I think that's when a little bell went off in my head and it occurred to me that one could [gasp!] COLLECT purses?!?!

In my 40s now and I never stopped sliding down that slippery slope! LOL.

I love reading everyone's stories about their first bag!<3

I purchased my first designer bag about a month ago, I got the Kate Spade Cedar Street Maise in black. I LOVE it, and the quality is great! I also purchased a DKNY purse yesterday and I have a Marc Jacobs bag on order- can't wait!! :D :yahoo:

Technically, it was the Guess bag I bought off eBay, but I always think of my Lucky Brand hobo and my first 'designer' bag. Bought it new at $168, and it was a big deal for me. Still have it! It's an awesome bag.

My first designer bag was coach... then my addiction for beautiful bags grew.. and I started buying Michael kors.. then Rebecca minkoff.. then Kate spade..after graduating from college then I looked at dooney.. then Gucci.. then LV... I love purses and I enjoy using all my bags regardless of the designer... I wear the bag that suits me better for the day... they all make me happy!

My first designer bag to purchase was a Chloe Marcie medium but I was gifted years ago a Louis Vuitton makeup hardcase and a Dooney and Bourke bag. I do not have the LV and Dooney Bourke things anymore. I wish I had kept the makeup case-it was really sturdy and nice.

The teeny tiniest little Coach and the strap barely reaches from one end to the other. I still have her andI can't imagine what occasion I'd use her for, but there's too much sentimental value to consider ever selling.

Mulberry.
Adopted a stray dog, with the most warm & goofy personality, despite being starved & sick.
Named him Mulberry.
Few months later, discovered the brand with same name.
I chose mulberry bags for love of a good dog--I still own mulberry bags, because they're great to use.

Why I've added other brands, & now threaten to build wall display shelves for favorite bags--well, that's a whole other type of crazy. ;)

Edit: pic, post #1524 I think--

If by 'designer' is meant branded, I think my first branded bag was a Polo Ralph Lauren bag with the houndstooth print. That was after college. Then slowly I went into Coach and Cole Haan.

But the first luxe designer bag I bought was an LV Stresa PM (monogram).maybe about 4 years ago.

Fun post :)

I first posted here when I found a teal Rebecca Minkoff mini-Nikki in the locked Loehmann's "designer" cabinet--I thought I'd found treasure! A couple years after that I purchased my first $500+ bag -- a midnight Proenza Schouler PS1 Small Keepall. I got a ton of compliments on that bag and definitely think it was my gateway drug. Now I'm all about Celine--uh oh . . .

I read through all the pages... fun thread for sure~

Growing up I remember carrying things like Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren. My first real leather bag was a Coach Ashley satchel my mom got me for my high school graduation. I still use it.

My first premier designer bag was an LV monogram keepall.

I have a feeling I'll be in the LV and Chanel world for a bit x.x

My first designer bag was a huge Coach British Tan duffle. I still have her tucked away in closet in my "purse vault ." I don't carry the duffle bag now but the memories of my Mom buying her for me at the long gone Jordan Marsh store at the iconic Shoppers World Mall in Natick, MA brings back some very happy moments. My Mom loved her purses and was my first enabler. I'm thinking about sending the duffle back to Coach for a spa treatment to restore her to her original beauty. She is from the era when Coach bags were made in NYC. My purse obsession has evolved over the years. I'm sure my Mom is watching over me and loving my Bottega Veneta collection. 'Miss you Mom!

:hugs:

my first designer handbag was a black Prada tote with chain straps. it was purchased in 1991-i still have it :-)

That's brilliant

I love that so many still have their first bags from a while ago. I thought I was a minority of 1.

Like many here, I started with Coach and Dooney & Bourke. My first premium designer bag was a black Marc Jacobs "Stella" around 2001-2002 or so. It's long gone now but looked like this. Anybody else remember these???

I don't remember this one but I still have my navy and red interior/stitching Blake which has similar pockets. They were fantastically made bags and I think they started many people on the slippery slope of bag mountain :D

The first designer bag I bought for myself was a Gucci Duilio Brogue Bag. View attachment 2775294

That bag is exemplary!
