What's your criteria for culling the Coach herd?

I base it on functionality, how much I've used it in the past x months and how badly if like something new. I have a few bags that no batter what I won't sell (maybe give as a gift ) but others I can let go of easier.

Unless you need to immediately sell some, you can try this and see if it helps in your decision making.

Pack up the ones you think you can live without. Put them in a box and store them away from your immediate reach (don't leave them in your room). Store them in a plastic storage box...it's only going to be a short time so the plastic box is ok. Put them out of the immediate area and into the garage, basement, etc....place them somewhere that you have to make an effort to retrieve....once again, this is just for a short period of time so they will be okay.

Wait a few weeks, did you miss one of them enough to go get it? Even though you know you still have the bag, did you need to go get it and put it back in your room? If you didn't miss it enough or want it enough to bother to go dig it out of the box and bring it back to your room, it's probably safe to say you can get rid of it with no regrets.

Good luck.
This is a good idea! Only what I would do, is open up the box after several months like it was a present and see if I was happy to see them again.

That sounds workable too. I guess you would need to be a little more careful with the packing away and the climate of where you store them, but that sounds like a plan too.

Sorry to hear about your health issues. It might also help to put it in writing. Create a written list of your inventory this way you can see smack in front of you which bags you have. I would seriously consider anything you have not carried in 6 months

Omg, that is wonderful! That is so heart warming. I hope they appreciate it. You are such a good friend!

I think they both will.....one has overcome a lot in her life and is in a good spot now but not with a lot of extra money for things and I sent her 5 bags.....my other friend always compliments me on my bags but won't spend money on herself..just others....I sent her 3 bags. The three of us have been good friends since we were little and it just felt good to do this one little thing for them and I hope it brings them a little bit of happy this week when they get their packages.

I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. I've recently been doing a little bit of downsizing myself because bags (like my tango shoe) become a little overwhelming once I have more than X number of them and I really DON'T want a large handbag collection. I'm trying to keep between 10-15 max.

There are a lot of good suggestions here, and I don't know if you need extra cash now, or just want to downsize because of your health issues, but cash is not an issue. If cash isn't an issue, then I like the box things up and look at them later idea to see if you miss them.

For me, I don't like to have too many duplicate (color or style). So if you have 6 brown bags, for example, then box up 4-5 not your favorite and take a look at them a couple of months later. Or 6 of the same style. Pick a favorite and box the others up to see if it really is your favorite so you still have a chance to make a change before culling. I do this with things in my closet that I'm not sure about getting rid of.

Another things that has helped me decide which bags stay and which bags go is making decisions what my overall "style" preference is with bags. It seems to be geared to more classic shapes and so the first bags that have gone have been ones that I considered too "cute" for the handbag collection I am trying to curate. This may not work for you at all, but definitely helped me choose between some bags.

I find myself in the unfortunate position of needing to cut down on the number of purses I own - sad, but I'm disabled, and it's hard to justify a herd of 40+ purses when I actually go outside about once a week, and most likely won't live on my own ever again. Sucks, but must needs be done.

My original plan was to wait a year and see which purses I rarely used, but I have since fallen in love with a...wait for it...a non-Coach bag and can't wait that long.

So help me out - how do you decide who needs to go without waiting to see which purses you never use?

Whoa, you've always been such a Coachie, Jadis! Oh, do tell! Details, what is your new love? I am all for exploring other brands. I came into Coach already having other brands/designers on my purse shelf; Roots, DB, Frye, LP....Still love them and several others.

I just took 8 bags I haven't been wearing, packed them up and sent 5 to a good friend of mine and 3 to another with a card saying.... enjoy...I love you.

You are incredibly sweet and that is such a lovely thing to do. I am sure they will be thrilled to receive their packages. They are lucky ladies to have such a generous friend!
