What's with the "I hate MK" bandwagon?

From talking to friends and people around me, it seems that because Michael Kors is a very popular brand, it's becoming hated because it is so "popular" and everyone "has Michael Kors bags". I have a friend who won't buy it because "everywhere she goes, she sees every girl with them".

Personally I think the excuse that "everyone has them" is played out. Everyone also has premier bags like Celine, LV , Chanel, etc. I follow 450+ on Instagram and 70% of them own premier bags and those don't include the celebrities. I currently own one and it's the MK Hamilton. I loved it when I got it but now I don't have much love for it as I used to so I rarely carry it now. I'm actually trying to sell it to someone who will love it! However I don't hate them. His bags are cute. If I like a bag, I'm a buy it regardless of its brand.

It's just petty.

I have to agree that MK has become very popular brand. I was a fan of MK before and owned few MK bags until I noticed that getting more and more bags are inspired by the premium brand especially from MMK line.

It doesn't stop me to buy MK bags though although I may not purchase anymore bags from MMK line because I think the market is saturated with MMK bags and too many people carrying the bags.

I still feel that some MK designs are not totally inspired. Some designs have good material and price point. Currently I also purchased the Miranda Tote due to its buttery soft leather and suede lining.

Inspired or not, if the bag is lovely, I don't mind to buy it. Same thing goes to Dior brand which I love the most. I like their Diorama bag although it is said that the bag is totally inspired by Chanel boy but still love Diorama more than Chanel boy.

At the end I don't really care whether the bag is inspired or not, as long as it's not counterfeit and I love the bag, I will buy it.

I feel like the newer MK bags are a bit gaudy. I owned several all leather MK bags & ended up selling them because I had went a bit overboard (it's really hard to work in the mall & and NOT go into Von Maur on your lunch break "just to look. Oh, MK on clearance? Yes, please!" But the newer designs just don't speak to me- the hardware is a bit too blingy for me, and I tend to go for bags that don't have the logo emblazoned on them. Just my opinion, no offense to any fellow bag lovers!

I really like MK. When he first came on the scene I thought his bags looked like knock off Louis Vuittons, but his designs have grown far beyond that. His bags are classic, elegant, and timeless. His clothes are gorgeous, and his jewelry and watches are show stoppers. Yeah, I agree. I don't get all the MK bashing, and I wish people world stop it.

maybe the like/dislike is regional? i read somewhere that he was considered a luxury brand in Europe but a 'cheap' brand in the US? it might also make a difference where you are located, what the general income level is, how many women you see with the bags, etc. i can imagine he might be lux in Nowheretown, Iowa but cheap in Beverly Hills, Calif. the perception of his items might be skewed by your own location, somewhat.

True! I lived in Iowa for 10 years, and had never seen anyone else with a Balenciaga or Jimmy Choo, but there would be 5 of the same Michael by Michael Kors bags on a rack at TJ Maxx, so I lost interest.

I think this is a very good point. I see MK here a lot it's very popular, I do see the odd Premier designer but for the most part, it's contemporary & home grown brands or things like Guess and no name styles bags.

I live in the South of France and MK bags are very popular here.
Young ladies carry them with pride.
I think the fact it's an American brand with a logo is part of their success.
A shop owner who sells MK and a cheaper brand with similar models told me that her young customers insist on getting MK and nothing else.

MK is such a confusing brand to me. Every day, I see instantly-recognizable MK bags that I find hideous. ALSO every day, I see women with bags that make me think, "oh what a nice bag" so I look closer, and . . . it's MK. This brand is SO ubiquitous and makes SO many bags that they run the gamut! Ugly bags, cute bags . . . seems like ALL the bags are MK. LOL.

Many are really cute bags, and so practical with all the pockets.
Here they are everywhere and the outlet bags have made them affordable for many.
I carried them for years with no problems and sold them on eBay for what I paid for them when I was tired of them.

They DO seem to be everywhere!
The MMK bags especially.
The Michael Kors line I see less often and some of those are just spectacular.
Life's too short to bother hating bags.

I saw a YouTube video about the LV Brea in electric noir epi leather, and it was To Die For. But, I cannot afford it. However, I could afford this large black patent Selma, which has a very similar silhouette and a striated leather that makes it look like epi. And, I got it on sale at Lord & Taylor for about $106. And I think it's terrific.
