What's with the "I hate MK" bandwagon?

Ah, yes he is 'the one' everyone loves to hate... I've heard it all, designers all copy each other... very few original designs exist and frankly even some you think belong to a brand actually do not.

I own some, i like them, had no issues with them i buy what i like and what works for me.. I also think and this has been brought up by others before we get in this sort of bubble here where we forget not everyone has a clue what some other brand has for designs, who was first(chicken and the egg debate) ... most are not in tuned(or care) they simply go out choose a bag they like and can afford and go home.

I tolerate some of it, though i get really annoyed when it becomes personal attacks, and to say it hasn't sunk to that is simply not true.. threads have been shut down because it gets that personal, i don't get that, not even a little... don't like it, don't buy it. To get so bent out of shape over a bag that you don't even have to buy is beyond extreme.:confused1::doh:

MK and LV were once owned by the same parent company. Not a surprise the most popular bags from one line show up in the other.
I LIKE the 5 pockets in an MK and often pick one to carry over my LV simply for organization.
Most of the MK bags are well made and nicely lined.
Wouldn't it be great if someone made a bag with the nice finishes of LV or Hermes, the organization of an MK, the on trend of Tory Burch or Kate Spade with the price point of a Coach outlet bag?
Heaven.

Check out MCM Milla bag. It doesn't have the price of Coach outlet bag but it's on trend, lots of pockets, very good quality and still cheaper than other designer bags.

I don't hate MK bags. I have a black wallet of his that I'm not currently using but I did use for a good while and it's in good condition. But there are So Many women carrying MK bags where I live. When I see everyone carrying them it just takes away from the specialness (for lack of a better word). I'm not really that much of a snob. I have some luxury brands and some that barely get any recognition here (Cole Haan). I just don't like when I see Everyone carrying a label. I feel the same about the Coach logo bags from the outlets.

I don’t think there is a hate bandwagon for MK. People notice only what is important to them. I have seen dislike shown for many brands and styles on this forum. However, nobody really gets emotional over it. The people who really love and absolutely dislike MK are very vocal. I link talking about MK on the Purse Forum the same as talking about Beyoncé on celebrity gossip forums. It can just get crazy on both sides. I think people have strong opinions that don’t bend on this brand that cause so much commotion. People are calling other people snobs and ghetto on discussions talking about MK all in one thread. I believe people have the right to love and dislike a brand for any reason that makes sense to them. What I don't agree with is name calling that happens on both sides towards opposite viewpoints. What I notice is people can't agree to disagree. We are all individuals, and we should not try to force our views on others.

Pretty sure you're confusing MK with Marc Jacobs. Kors was part of LVMH when he was designing for Celine a long time ago (which had nothing in common with LV bags), a period concluded in 2003--not during his more recent business era. The constant imitation of LV found in MK is because he copycats, not because of an overlap of brand history. Jacobs, in contrast, did migrate designs between his brand and his work at LV.

Because he was on Project Runway as a judge for a long time constantly criticizing young designers for a variety of issues including lack of originality, his same lack of originality is hard to take.
I think that is why he might be receiving more than usual harsh criticism for imitating others designs.
And I am in that camp.

Makes sense if you were attached to the show.
It's not like he reads this forum tho. Why bother?

For some reason, I have a love/hate for MK. I have several of his bags. I find the bags to be of good quality. They are well made. I like the neutrality of the signature bags, but I feel like some stick out like a sore thumb. Like the signature Sutton trimmed in Cherry. I love it, I want it, but...

And it's not just his signature bags, but nearly all brands that have the letters all over. I used to HATE LV bags because of it. Now I have two.

I love some of his bags, but there's just something about him that rubs me the wrong way.

Bayou Minou, my husband also doesn't like Michael Kors (the person). I really don't know much about Kors myself, but your'e not the only one who finds him unpleasant.

I personally don't "hate" Kors, or any brand that I can think of. I do not personally like the watches so I tire of the trend of seeing them on everyone's wrists, I want them to go away. For the bags, I have been turned off by the large, and, in my eyes, unattractive monogram dongles, and also the strangeness of seeing familiar-ish shapes of bags I like, and, in one case, own, done in a derivative version that looks to me to be much stiffer and plainer. Something about the type of leather and the plainness of the designs doesn't work well for me. It's not the kind of minimalism that I like. At the same time, the leather bags are hardly an eyesore (minus the dongle). It's just not what I love.

On the other hand, I do love the gold tone hardware. And I am even currently considering buying a Kors, as I realized I will need a non-premier work bag, and it just might fit that need. Also, I think they make some cute clothes. I do have a few. So, Kors has been useful to me.

I will reserve "hating" a brand for something unethical that they do. And maybe specific bags that are especially heinous to the eyes

From talking to friends and people around me, it seems that because Michael Kors is a very popular brand, it's becoming hated because it is so "popular" and everyone "has Michael Kors bags". I have a friend who won't buy it because "everywhere she goes, she sees every girl with them".

Personally I think the excuse that "everyone has them" is played out. Everyone also has premier bags like Celine, LV , Chanel, etc. I follow 450+ on Instagram and 70% of them own premier bags and those don't include the celebrities. I currently own one and it's the MK Hamilton. I loved it when I got it but now I don't have much love for it as I used to so I rarely carry it now. I'm actually trying to sell it to someone who will love it! However I don't hate them. His bags are cute. If I like a bag, I'm a buy it regardless of its brand.

It's just petty.

MMK was my first designer bag and led me to TPF. MK is one of the few brands that makes a beautiful leather purse that is practical as well with enough pockets, etc. The bags I like seem to be not as popular, but that is fine as they work for me and last for years of heavy use. Frankly, much of the "copy" posts seem like snobbery to me. Like, how dare you have bag similar to mine that didn't cost $$$$. There are only so many shapes for bags where they still are usable. I have an Oryany bag that has been mistaken for a Chloe, but I don't see people hating on Oryany.

Oooh, I so agree and I have that same Oryany bag as you do! Love it, the quality is perfection, tons of storage, beautiful leather, and yes.....it looks eerily similar to a Chloe bag! Oryany flies under the radar for sure!
