I've always been a Tiffany gal - about 90% of my jewelry is Tiffany. Why?

- Good customer service
- Huge range of styles and price points... I started off in undergrad buying the Tiffany and Elsa Peretti silver pieces, and you can branch out into platinum, diamonds, etc... Everything from mainstream to ornate designs, classic to modern like the Frank Gehry collection
- Great resale - I tend to only buy branded jewelry. I get tired of pieces and upgrade, and Tiffany is one of the only brands where you can sell your sterling/gold pieces and still get a fair amount back. That will never happen with a dept store piece.
- Excellent quality - I've owned many Tiffany pieces over the years from jewelry to flatware, and only 1 piece had a problem... Tiffany fixed it quickly, no charge. Never had problems with clasps breaking, loose stones, etc...
- I still love the little blue boxes too

I think Tiffany is popular because of its accessibility and, up to a certain extent, playing to the 'American Dream' that makes you feel that you can get it when it is in fact not exactly much cheaper than other well known brands (e.g. Boucheron, Piaget).

I think it has to do with the way the store is set up. Tiffany in London has a very discrete doorman whereas places like Graff have these huge Russian guys who look in business, LOL and that sort of deters you from walking in :sweatdrop:.

I guess what I am saying is that Tiffany's popularity is derived from how they position themselves in the market: the huge gap in the middle between the likes of Cartier and the department store stuff. So you get a bit of exclusivity/bragging rights, LOL without having to fork out serious money!

I'm into Tiffany because it was the first real designer jewelry I had (my dad got me the heart tag bracelet when I was in 10th grade). It goes with everything and I love the weightiness of the pieces. They're so much heavier than other pieces I have..also, the regular chains are made really well. I've snapped other necklaces when brushing my hair or getting it stuck on my purse, etc. but the Tiffany's ones never have. That's just me though.
I bought my heart toggle necklace with my graduation money in 03' and still wear it pretty much every day.

While I've never had problems with the quality...my mother has. She has lost 2 sapphire bracelets due to the clasp breaking. The first bracelet actually broke twice. The first time it happened, she was able to find her bracelet on the floor of my apartment. The second time, she wasn't so lucky :crybaby: To make up for the heartache of losing something valuable, she went to Tiffany's and bought the 2.75 carat version of the bracelet. The clasp on that one was a bit different, looked more sturdy and she figured since it was a lot heavier than her previous one, she'd be able to feel it falling off if it were to ever break :shrugs: But nope...one day when we were done shopping, she noticed it was no longer on her wrist. She's vowed to never buy another Tiffany's bracelet :push:

its just one of those great american companies that has a rich history and tradition. there is a romance about the brand. their styles are very unique to tiffany and are very often copied. can you tell I'm a fan?

I love the silver jewelry at tiffany's. I have numerous pieces and they are so classic and go with everything.

I must say that I am not a huge fan of the service at Tiffany's. I have had both good and bad service experiences, not hands down excellent service like others have said.

I have to admit, that I am a little annoyed about their engagement rings. I went to the NYC location w/ my BF to look at the different styles and to try on the diff sizes. I was interested in comparing a 1.5 vs 2 karat diamond to see what would fit my finger the best. All of their rings come in size 6 and I am size 7. They were not flexable w/ the sizing at all, and said that they would NOT resize a ring unless it was paid for. Not even if I was seriously considering it, and just wanted to try it on all the way on my finger and not just at on the tip of it.

I understand that they cant go re-sizing their rings for everyone, but they would not even do it if it was a serious consideration, only if it was purchased. I also thought the SA was sorta rude and snobby in the diamond dept.

For me, I think its the settings-they're absolutely gorgeous!! Love their silver as well

With regards to sizing, I didnt think any jewellery shop would size a ring from a 6 to a 7 unless you've paid for it.Im a 7 too and anytime Ive had to buy a ring, Ive had to pay for it before they would size it up.

I would also agree- narrow it down to one small jewelry piece if you've only been dating such a short amount of time. Personally I would be a little bit nervous if I guy was showering me with very expensive gifts early on in a relationship. A small gift like just a ring or earrings would be thoughtful and appreciated. then maybe sometime later, for another holiday, get her another matching item, like the matching necklace for her birthday or Valentine's day or XMas, etc.

Tiffany's is excellent and beautiful, though! You can't go wrong. I don't own any items but I've certainly drooled over them.

Truthfully, I don't know of *any* jewelry store that will resize a ring before it is paid for. Its too bad though that they didn't have a similar ring available in your size for you to try on.
