The majority of my handbag purchases are spontaneous and spur-of-the moment. If I get the "love if" feeling and I have the money, then I will purchase the bag. However, I am trying to be more diligent about researching and planning which bag I will buy next.

Now at my age I am only buying classic bags. I never buy trendy. With the money I spend I want to be able to wear the bag for many years. I now can afford to buy quality handbags and now Hermes is my favorite. I think Bottega veneta is a close second. I am down to one Chanel classic maxi that I love but not impressed with any other Chanel style

I am with you on the classic. I have a daughter and plan to pass them down to her so I only want quality and not trendy. So far in terms of classic I have only liked LV and Coach classic. I just got an excellent condition vintage station bag.
I love the nice simple, yet elegant look of a classic. For the record I am 35 and my daughter is 7 and already eyeing my purses. :-)

The model and i will imagine myself to carry it for next 10 years. I love classy, signature, and timeless bag and since the price is expensive, so i'll consider it as my closet investment . Such as bottega veneta ebene veneta that i've bought on december 2010, i'm pretty sure it will still 'happening' for next 10 years. Chanel flap bag and Hermes kelly are also good investment for future 

I chose impulse because although i have an idea of the bags i want, i buy what strikes my fancy when i'm at the store. It's not always what i came in for but its usually a notch better than what i originally planned :-)

Bag lust....and also a fetish for pebbly, delicious quality leather, stunning style and my knees just wobbling like jelly when my eyes come across that bag that just beckons me like Viggo Mortensen with long hair in LOTR attire..... :sweatdrop:

Also, bags and wallets are one of the few things (being a mum) that are truly just mine, and I treasure that, and bags give such a boost to any outfit on any kind of day and I love that, and having to carry around crap daily, doing it in style isntead of a recycled shopping bag.

My bag purchases are planned as I have to save for them, but they all start out as :faint: from  and when getting them its :cloud9:

I plan most of my purchases.. And it's for my own satisfaction. It's not that I invest on an identity but more so that I worked hard, look after my responsibilities and it's a reward for my effort. Some people have other hobbies, cars, bikes, jewellery, gambling, holidaying etc well I dont have time outside of work, family and my studies to spen. its my hobby, my pick me upper when I'm having a crappy day, that asides from looking after my family, a goal to look after myself too.

If I need/want a particular color, I'll keep an eye out for it. But tPF has greatly influenced my bag purchases lately. I generally might buy 1-2 a year...since joining here I've purchased three already!

Very interesting thread and I enjoyed reading every post. As for me, I have changed now, I think. When I started buying designer bags it was 'spur-of-the-moment' but 5 years down the road I plan every bag purchase that I make and it will take months before I buy a bag that I want due to saving up and thinking whether I really love the bag or just like it. I have also changed from 'bling-out-look-at-me-I-carry-a-designer-bag bag' to 'subtle-style-and-let-the-quality-of-the-bag-speak-for-it-self bag'.

Make a choice and then post a deeper explanation, please.

I started thinking about this when a member posted that she felt worthless unless she carried an expensive bag, and that made me start thinking about how we get started on this kind of mindset (that what we own is who we are.)

And that made me start thinking about how we end up buying what we buy...

So there ya go! Have fun, and look deep - be thoughtful - let us get to the root of our buying habits and perhaps help somebody realize that who they are inside is not best represented by the bag they carry. Maybe.

Some planned, some spur of the moment....

None of my friends have shelves and shelves of bags or tons of belts and leather jackets hanging in their closets. But over the years, they never took anything to the extreme that I would take things. I was dangerously unmanagable in some areas of life when I was younger. At least this is a much safer habit.

I have a hole in my soul and I wanna fill it with....stuff.
