I picked advertisement because the last bag I purchased I found on a website.

I once bought an LV Palermo because I saw someone w/one at a grocery store. I bought my LV Bosphore backpack, Batignoles Vertical and Zippy Organizer wallet because I saw them on their website. I bought a Goyard St Louis tote because I saw it on Brothers and Sisters. I didn't even know what designer it was. Had to do some research.

I would say most are planned if I see something I really like (a got to have bag) I will start on a saving plan straight away!! sometimes when i am lucky i get the bag i want at sale price :-)!!

Planning ahead works out better for me so i dont overspend on a bag but neglect other much more importants things.

I chose spur-of-the-moment because all of my designer bags were impulse buys. I used to say that although I loved looking at BV and Balenciaga bags, I would never spend thousands of dollars on a single bag. I definitely ate my words. A few years ago, I saw a gorgeous white Gucci bag in the Gucci store's display window. It was my last night in Hong Kong. I couldn't resist. A few months later, I was in Vietnam with my best friend and we saw that there was a sale in Chloe and Balenciaga. We didn't even know that Chloe and Balenciaga were sold in Vietnam! We both walked away with bags that day. Two months later, I was in Dallas and found myself at the Bottega Veneta store at North Park Mall. I went home with a blue Campana.

See the pattern? :D Since that first impulse buy, I've bought a new bag every three months or so, and NONE of the purchases was planned. I think I need help. LOL

Long before I meet tPF, I'm always a handbag fanatic. I have many but in the style that I like and most comfortable with at the moment. I have numurous bags and I rotate them. Most of them back then are fabric bags. Back then, I'm the spur-on-the-moment type of girl. I see something I like, I think if I can afford it, then I buy it.

My first designer bag, MJ Stella, is the one that I saved for. It's also the first bag I saw in the magazine that drove me nuts and kept haunting me for several months. It was a big spending for me then so I think a lot and finally after scrutinizing over and over again, I caved in and bought one. I never regret it. I love it and still use it now sometimes.

Fast forward, I'm still the handbag fanatic. My taste hasn't changed much, but I no longer buy a fabric bags. Most of my fabric bags now are too old and in a not-good condition. I now buy only leather bags. I still have the same shopping pattern, I see something I like, I check my wallet, if it's ok, then I buy. Sometimes, that "checking the wallet and think over" can last a month or more, or sometimes it takes only ten minutes. I'm trying to be more careful with my purchases though. And to tell the truth, now I buy only designer's bags, I find the material and craftmanship are of better qualities so they last longer. So, I hope to pass them along to my daughter.

I don't think any Ads influent me and I don't really plan any of my purchases. I simply find something I like, check my budget, think over, and pull the trigger. Well, only some occasion that I will have the agenda of getting some specific type of bag such as diaper bags or for traveling that I will plan my purchase. tPF's been a great help for me on how I gather all the information plus all the modeling pix since I live so far from many boutiques and shops. Therefore, I choose spur-of-the-moment.

Planned because of limited storage space and because now that I'm buying better bags that don't wear out so fast I only get them for my birthday and anniversary - even then, I've accumulated 6 designer bags that I use regularly and don't want to part with and I don't have space for any more!

I browse in stores and try on bags and see what people on here have, when making my decision, but sometimes I think about it for months before I decide exactly what I want. And sometimes what I want is off the market by the time I get around to buying it (most of mine are Coach, LAMB or Kate Spade and the available styles change frequently) so that saves me money too!

The main reason I buy any of my bags is I think it makes me look overall more stylish, grown up, chic and sometimes professional. I like bags to portray the kind of person that I am. I know it sounds silly, but if someone never got to talk to you or actually observe you for a long period of time, the only way they can judge you is by your outer appearance. This is not shallow, it is simply a fact and the way humans work. I'd like to think that my bags can help bring out the professional, independent image that I have as a woman.

Well said!

I have this in the back of my mind as well. Always think if this piece is "me".

BTW, are you the one with blog of this name? Just want to let you know I'm a fan! :) Always love your delicate taste of jewelry. :)

Yep! Haha.. how embarrassing to be recognized here... :P Well thank you. I've always read this forum but only now started to post. :roflmfao:

I mostly plan the purchases of my bags as I prefer to have less but unique bags.
Brand is less important then style and quality altough a few brands stand exactly for those criteria. I like to search for not so "outspoken" brands such as Loro Piana or Tanner Krolle hoewever I like my Kelly which accompanies me for more then 15 years.

I guess it is like collecting precious things. Others collect paintings, watches, I just like
collecting handbags.

You can wear/use those handbags for many years. They never look old fashioned and sometimes even better with that kind of "patina".

Now at my age I am only buying classic bags. I never buy trendy. With the money I spend I want to be able to wear the bag for many years. I now can afford to buy quality handbags and now Hermes is my favorite. I think Bottega veneta is a close second. I am down to one Chanel classic maxi that I love but not impressed with any other Chanel style

Almost all my purchases are planned. I see things I like or want constantly so if I didn't plan my purchases I would be in serious trouble. Also, I have to consider if I can actually use it or not. As much as I adore, say, a Birkin, it's not practical for me, even if I could afford it because I absolutely need a bag I can put on my shoulder and with everything I have to carry around for my son it can't be too heavy. I love hand-held bags, but don't usually buy them for those reasons.
So a LOT of planning goes into almost every purchase. Though occasionally if I come across a good sale I'll impulse buy something if it's a really great price. I'm talking 50 to 75% off the original. But I even do a quick planning session on those. I'll walk around for awhile and think about it before I buy it, or I'll even go home and see if I'm still lusting after it and if I am I'll go back and get it if it's still there.
