Since birth. JK. But really, I remember being kinda particular about my schoolbag in gradeschool. Then after college, it picked up some momentum. However it didn't pick up steam until my 30s.

It's a total relief to hear from others who are as obsessed as I am. My husband thinks I'm crazy and most friends tell me "I would never spend that much on a purse!"

My BF says similar stuff (why do you spend so much on a purse) but he understands cause he spends the same amount or more on electronics and getting new TVs like once a year.

Ever since when I started school, a nice school bag was a must. Every school year I got so excited because I will get a new bag, but my Designer bags obsession started when I got my 1st job in NY. NY is a really a big influence for me in Fashion, everyday you get to see all these women w/ their bags, the stores, I see them everywhere. Since I was able to afford it, I started w/ CK, then DK, RL, then upgrade to LV. Now, look! I'm getting higher & higher on the prices, I'm so hooked w/ these expensive bags. Plus TPF, it got worst. But, I'm happy. :)

My bag obsession started when I was little. I remember being like 4 years old and having this pink patent leather looking bag that I loved. Then when I was around 10, I got my first real leather bag and I was sooo excited. Now that I'm 24 I have a real bad obsession and have spent WAY too much on bags!

I have loved handbags since I got my first purse at age 5--a little red velvet bag with a chain strap! Later I got a white vinyl purse with flowers on the flap (for my First Communion, age 7) a navy patent leather shoulder bag from my Aunt Josie (age 9), denim bags, a leather bag from my grandma, my pink nylon barrel bag with a unicorn on it--this could go on for a while.

The higher-end ($50+ for me) obsession started almost two years ago when my clearance bin Kathy van Zeeland bag was falling apart and I needed a replacement. A Banana Republic Kensington bag did the trick (BR bags are cool!).

I got my first Coach bag last year--a wristlet--and the Coach obsession got started. I also have a Rebecca Minkoff Hello Kitty wristlet, an Alexis Hudson Petite Amour, a buttercup yellow leather Plinio Visona bag and a few Max Mara bags.

Yeah, I am pretty obsessed.

i used to have a shoe obsession, didn't care for bags at all until about 3 years ago. i do a lot of european travelling and i would get a bag for each and every trip but not really high end bags. i would get bags that are not available in the states. i had a couple of coaches and dooneys though. (they're kindda old)
i bought my 2 lv in paris last may and found pf ... and all hell broke loose. since then (which is only about 3 mos ago) i've gotten, 2 more lvs, 2 fendis, 2 guccis, 1 burberry, 1 dior, 2 rebecca's and counting....
and this is all because of purse forum....
i know i have to stop now...

I have this thing with accessories, I need loads. Started with mid-price brands for the longest time. Then when I turned 26 and was in the midst of changing my job, I got started on luxury brand bags. First luxe bag I bought with my own money: LV speedy.

I have several theories about how the obsession starts and continues. My first observation about myself was that it was the wanting -- the research, the checking in with forums like this one etc -- that was the exciting part and then getting the actual bag was sometimes a letdown relative to that longing (that is not saying that the bags aren't wonderful, just that the anticipation was more exciting). And so the wanting continues, with the next must-have bag. Then my other observation is that there is some major archetype at work here -- having to do with "storage". What you carry with you. Have I gotten too out there?

My first obsession was actually just recently. I never really cared too much about handbags, and still carry the same suede and leather Banana Republic hobo that I got as a gift when I was 19 (it's actually really beautiful and has broken in so well).

But THEN...

...about a month or so ago, I was hanging out with my friend who came down from NYC, and she was carrying a Rebecca Minkoff MAB. Can't say I'll ever go back. I even ordered my first MAB, and it should be coming in this week!!!! :happydance:
