Hi ladies! I just looked at this emerald/diamond half eternity ring with the hubby this weekend. What do you ladies think? I own several colored stone rings (sapphire, ruby) so this will be my first emerald. View attachment 3896973

I love colored stones, especially sapphires, rubies and emeralds.
Your ring is lovely and the emeralds are a very nice shade of green.

I am thinking of getting a colored gemstone eternity ring to wear on my right hand and I love emeralds. My hesitation is emerald is soft and I usually bang up my rings on the underside so I think the emerald will chip (I have slight nicks on my sapphire). Hence I was thinking of ruby instead as it is a harder stone.

Your ring is now making me go back to emeralds. Very lovely ring and stones. Do you know if the emeralds are African or Brazil or Colombian?

I'm obsessed with these

On the hunt for this discontinued "Sparkling Minnie" Pandora charm:

I have no idea whether they have your charm but it might be worth calling the Pandora Outlet in Woodbury Common, where discontinued items end up. Here’s the link to their phone number: http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlet/woodbury-common/stores/pandora-outlet

Good luck!

ETA - here’s the full list of Pandora outlets for you. They’re having a sale too:

Ruby and emerald are both corundum and have the same hardness - 9 (out of 10) on the Mohs scale, just behind diamond.

No... ruby and sapphire are the same, both are corundum. Emerald is a beryl and is softer, on the Mohs scale emerald is only 7.5-8. If you did not know that, please be careful as yours is an eternity ring and the bottom may get chipped. I have chipped my emerald ring from casual wear.

True - I was thinking sapphire/ruby. But an emerald is more likely to have issues if it has a lot of inclusions. I doubt an eternity band setting with the relatively smaller stones would present huge issues unless you are very very hard on your jewelry.

Nope - emeralds will chip very easily, and all emeralds have many inclusions. Emeralds with few inclusions are more than we mere mortals can afford.

I have an emerald eternity band, a two carat emerald, a 1 carat round cut emerald and an emerald in a band with other gems and these are worn only when I am not using my hands for much. These are all natural untreated stones.

You can chip them quite easily with daily wear. Even good quality stones. I regret the eternity band - I should have gotten a half only. I've chipped two stones and had them replaced. I've also chipped 2 other stones I had that have been sold and recut. I do not recommend emeralds for daily use.

Totally agree! I had a 2.3ct untreated Colombian emerald that got chipped so I sold it as I could not stand to look at it.

But I love emeralds so much I’m willing to try again but thinking maybe go for African this time as they are a bit clearer and less pricey than the Colombians (as I want a 4ct stone).

But my heart loves the intensity of a Colombian emerald. May I ask what emeralds you prefer (if that is something you care about)?

Thanks for your input on the eternity band. I was looking at a JB Star emerald eternity band (African emeralds) but I was super worried about the chips. Given your input, think I will stick with a center stone instead.
