Oh, and I just found 3 boxes of Le Bolshoi Guerlain from different years in my closet. How could I forget?
The only old thing I found in my closet was a sample of Charlie by Revlon. Sigh. Talk about antiques.
Memories! Waaaaay, long time ago, in the mid 70's, I was on my first marriage. My brother-in-law would bring the latest girlfriend to family dinners. One of them was Passover Seder the my mother was hosting, and, as usual, he brought someone new. She, like all of them, was a very nice young woman, and he had just met her literally a couple of days before in Filene's in downtown Boston, working at the Charlie counter.

Le Bolshoi Guerlain is quite difficult to find I think? I would be thrilled if I found a forgotten bottle of this perfume in my closet.

I know, it’s crazy! I found a bag in my dressing room with 2 boxes of Le Bolshoi 2011, Le Bolshoi Black Swan, 180 Ans de Créations , the Royal Extrait Harrods Limited Edition and Guet Apens. All in unopened boxes! I’m buying too much perfume...
Went to Serge Lutens Tokyo today

The service there is sooo good that leaving without a purchase is almost rude. And I did not want to be rude

You found some lovely perfumes in your closet. Guerlain is such a magnificent house - so much history in perfumery and each one of their original perfumes are so unique. One of my favorite perfume houses!
Serge Lutens is another favorite house - did you get a perfume from them? I don't have any of their bell jars, only the tall bottles.

I have purchased waaaaaay too much perfume lately, and I am ashamed of myself. Kidding. I love it. This is from yesterday - By Kilian Black Phantom, a very yummy gourmand.

I have very few gourmands in my collection - but yesterday I was clearing out the winter clothes in my closet and found a package of samples including Angelique Noire and Gourmand Coquin among others that the sales associate at Neimans had given me a while back. So I have been sampling over the last few days again. I actually have been loving Cuir Beluga - the Guerlain vanilla base is gorgeous.

I have a few bell bottles and around 10 tomb stones and was hoping to get more bell jars but they don’t sell them in Japan. I got Serge Noire in that black special edition bottle and Cannibal in the gold tone bottle

As for Guerlain, with all my love to them (and I own most of their exclusifs), I would not use the word unique. I’m very disappointed with their “limited edition” games. In fact, Le Bolshoi 2011 was a copy of Les Secrets de Sophie, Le Bolshoi 2012 was a copy of Le Bolshoi 2011 and Royal Extract is what was previously Guet Apens and earier Attrape Cœur.
Which is not stopping me from buying them so I see how stupid this rant is :)

Nice purchases from Lutens.
Regarding Guerlain, I was thinking about their history and earlier perfumes - to me what made those earlier perfumes unique was not just the way the scent was designed but also the overall presentation - the unique bottles, the story behind each perfume. It really appealed to the imagination and was not just a copy or mass production in those days. Perfumes like L'Heure Bleue, Apres L'Ondee, Vol de Nuit, Mitsouko and others. Even the first handful of fragrances in the Aqua Allegoria series were very well done. Quite a few of the current releases are not unique and in their mainstream line there are so many flankers I have lost track! Luckily I still have a few of the older versions.

Agree. I’m not even testing new luxe releases, especially the Robes, they are not standing out in any way in the crowd of numerous faceless mass market fragrances. But the original Guerlain perfumes are true legends

Somehow, my photos in the previous post didn’t save

I was buying Guerlain's Tonka Imperiale at Neiman's, and my SA had me try Gourmand Coquin and sent me home with a sample. Then, I had to have it. I just tried Cuir Beluga for the first time, yesterday, and I was surprised that I love it, too. I didn't expect that from a fragrance with 'leather' in its name.

The leather in Cuir Beluga is very light and the drydown is really all about the vanilla to me. I have over an hour's drive to reach the mall where niche selections are available so I don't get out there very often which is sometimes a good thing! Right now I am sampling Encens Mythique d'Orient. After this, I think I will stop sampling and get back to using the bottles in my collection.

Stop sampling and get back to using the bottles in my collection...now that's a concept! I think I'd better do that, too. :amuse:

I think I’m ready to take a break from buying. Have over 20 unopened boxes with perfumes. I just cannot get myself to open all those rarities that I have. Do any of you have this syndrome too?
No.

If I won't use something, I won't buy it. Doesn't matter what it is. I refuse to buy things to just to admire them or have them without actually using them the way they are supposed to be used.
