What makes this brand excellent?

I have several LV bags and one Ferragamo...I would say it is hard to compare the two b/c it's apples and oranges...
in terms of pricing, i would say LV is definitely more pricey if you are comparing comparable items. if you take an all leather ferragamo bag, depending on size and type of leather, it's going to be anywhere from 500-1 k for a smaller bag and 1-2+k for a bigger bag. and then if you're getting more exotic, etc., it's going to go up exponentially of course.
but for LV you're only going to get something 500-1 k if you are buying a bag that is mostly canvas with only leather trim and very basic with little detail or structure (ie the classic speedy). if you were trying to get something all leather it would be much more. so pricing wise LV is higher b/c they are trying to stay on par with chanel almost.
that's why ferragamo is so great...superb quality, classic styling, and compared to many other luxury brands reasonably priced. of course, again, there are the exotics and occassionally over priced items, but there isn't the type of exorbitant over pricing we are generally seeing in today's handbag market in my opinion.

in terms of durability, again, apples to oranges in my opinion. the companies aim for different crowds, so it's hard to really do a systematic analysis of this. but i will try.
LV of course is known for their coated canvas products which are crazy durable. LV canvas is synthetic; there is no way an organic material like leather is going to be as durable no matter how it is treated (unless of course the treatment makes it almost like a synthetic, ie LV epi leather). so if you are comparing LV's signature material, their coated canvas, with any leather, no matter how well made, there isn't going to be much competition. canvas will win hands down.
but the material isn't the only thing going into making something durable...there is craftsmanship, the way it is put together. it is well known that LV has been making many changes recently that have cut down on the quality, while at the same time they have been raising prices. so lots of ppl have been having problems with cracking, peeling, and the like. items falling apart on them when they shouldn't be.
i haven't heard of any such similar complaints from ferrgamo owners, so perhaps ferragamo is bucking the general trend today of declining quality and rising cost. at the same time, perhaps it is b/c ferragamo is not as widespread as LV, and also maybe the clientele is a little older, more discreet, so they are not as haphazard in their treatment of their handbags, shoes, wallets, etc.

also someone confirm this with me..my friend read somewhere that royal family in england..queen herself only..wears ferragamo shoes(designer wise) due to their elegance and discreetness..
A couple of years ago, I had gotten SF shoes for my DH's b-day, and he would always comment on how comfortable and great these shoes were which is odd, because he never comments on shoes, so he actually purchased another pair as he was so pleased with them ( he can wear them standing at work for 12 hours and his feet are still fine!).
For our summer vacay, we went to Monaco, and I notice many many of the men there were wearing SF belts and loafers (like a uniform there) needless to say we went to SF store in Monte Carlo and everything was drool-worthy
we both bought shoes but I wanted to buy everything in that store - even the RTW was to die for!

I own only one ferragamo, bought off the bay..
I have always liked the soft soft leather and the shape really have held up over the years. I use it as my work bag... No big logo, just a small gold Gianco clip, very understated...

I have a Sofia and am amazed at the quality for what was much less than an LV. So chic and under-the-radar.
not sure about QE2 wearing ferragamo shoes but i've seen pics of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands wearing ferragamo
