What is the exact year LV stopped using real brass?

You might be describing special order or LE items, but if it is a mass produced bag like a regular Speedy the hardware should be identical no mater where it is made.
I got a cles less than a year ago and even though it is MIF, and the zipper pull is peeling, so it is a coated metal, not a brass.

This is correct. For all lower end (mass-produced factory models), they are coated metal - no matter where they are made. That would be virtually everything under $3,500 to $4,000.

I wasn't even really aware of this. Maybe this is why I very seldom use my locks or keys on most of my handbags. I try to adorn them with bag charms & bandeaus and such to make them different and pretty.

That way, if I tire of a handbag and decide its time to sell, my removable hardware is as shiny as the day I bought it. :D

You can get a free replacement zipper pull from LV.

LV never used real brass on the Damier Ebene Speedy. It's only been out since they had long stopped using solid brass. Many many years before that.

That is so sad!!!!

I just looked up the retail price of Solid Brass Zippers vs Plated Brass…

They are roughly in the same price range….

and fact is… even if they are different in price,
we are talking about CENTS per Zipper…. they get them wholesale
and bulk…

I would be willing to pay a larger mark up , for solid brass…
I bet I am not alone in this thought…..

They could have stayed with solid brass, and charged
$10 extra and I bet people would be happier than
they are now, with chipping and pealing hardware… :(

Totally agree! I guess a few pennies saved ends up being millions saved for the frugals in charge. Peace and LoVe!

I just noticed the zipper pull on my new speedy does seem thinner and skimpier. (is that word... lol)

Thanks ...that is good to know I can have it replaced when it gets worn out.

Is there a way to re coat the zipper pull? I have a clemence wallet and I replaced the leather "zipper pull" with the LV coated zipper pull that I purchased off ebay. I thought the zipper pull was dirty and I thought it was brass so I cleaned it with brasso. LOL. It took off all the coating.

Could you visit your local store?
Zipper pulls are usually replaced for free and most of the time it is done in store.
