What IS it with Birkins?

Well, I was a Hermes Trim bag gal and shoulder bag gal for the longest time and then i got hit with the birkin bug craze...I ended up with a nice HAC in the 32cm size which I adore..very happy with it! Did NOT think I would be so crazy for a handbag..I was obsessing for over a year!:rolleyes:

I am enjoying my first Birkin because I am obsessed with handbags....not shoes, clothes or jewelry. Therefore, this Birkin represents to me the best quality and reputation of any handbag throughout the decades. Since I got the size 40 it is heavy but I love how it can hold everything and I can find it easily. I had no color preference so when the orange came in I knew I was destined to have the classic Hermes color which makes it even more special.

I'm in the same boat. At the moment my fav Hermes is a Plume (just ordered one in Gold Buffalo), zips neatly shut and will fit under the shoulders; I've liked Bolides. I keep having visions of dropping a Birkin and spilling crap out all over the place. Once had a Kelly and it was a pain in the neck to open and close--is a Birkin easier, and can you wear it on your shoulder as well as on your arm? Thanks!

Oasis: I have the Birkin open (the flap is inside) that way you can alway get in. It is not a shoulder bag, though I can have it on my shoulder (one handle) just for a little while, probably people with skinny arms could :)

Hello Ladies! Wow what great responses thank you all for sharing you veiws!
OK, so it's been several months since my 32HAC purchase and quite frankly, I thought I would settle down in to a warm happy Hermes hand bag glow..and stop obsessing but NO! Crimany, I actually think ah, it's time to sit with my beautiful hand bag and admire it or it's time to look at every color leather and type of HAC or Birkin and deside which will be my next bag! Yikes! When will it end??? OH my gosh, my mind is taken over by Hermes! HELP!

The Birkin just WORKS for me. My lifestyle is more casual and the Birkin fits it. However, when I travel, I sometimes keep it closed up (for security) and the bag looks very different - dressier and more elegant. Hermes makes many other bags that I love - but they either don't function as well, or don't look as flattering on me.

Hi, and thanks for asking. I probably started with the Birkin for the hype, and now it's a habit. I love the feel when I have to carry several weighty things. It just feels balanced, and I don't have to stuff it to get everything in. That said, I also carry them rather empty and I don't love the look when they collapse. This last weekend I took out one of the step-children a rigide bolide and remembered how much I loved that bag. I packed it lightly and used it the whole weekend. It looked and felt great. I think I have been overlooking my other bags.

I'm a recent convert to Birkin love. I began as a Kelly girl and have enjoyed the Plume, Bolide, Constance and Trim, as well as various totes and small bags. But, since receiving my first 25cm Birkin, I have been totally in love. The size, shape, depth, functionality - it just works for me. :yahoo:

i don't have a birkin but would love to. i am concerned about the weight and it not being a shoulder bag. i have never cared how heavy a bag is but have always had the option to put it over my shoulder. does anyone find this to be a problem? i love the open structured tote bag and hope to someday be lucky enough to get a birkin.

I have found it a huge problem. That and the fact that everything ends up all over the floor of the car. I'm now a kelly girl - er, older lady - iso a shoulder tote.

It's the idea of unavailability. Sort of like a hot guy you can't get, or a hot car you can't afford. But seriously, once you get one, it's not like this thirst is quenched- not at all. We either want another one, or create another target. It's scary. It's human nature and some companies know how to market dead-on.

I agree with a lot of people in this thread. Birkins are really easy to use, and they're the perfect size (35 cm) for what I need to carry. Plus, they're stylish and elegant, but practical and versatile. In fact, I'm planning on using my BJ 35 Birkin as an overnight on my trip next week. But I like the Bolide, too, though I don't have one.
