No, I didn't have to buy a strap, it had the strap, but it was missing the shoulder comfort pad that is threaded on the strap. Buying a new strap is quite expensive. But this is a heavy bag and I figured that it needs the shoulder pad and that costs about $11 shipped.

aah! I had my hopes up! I can't justify spending $36 on a replacement strap. I figure it would be cheaper to find a bag that is beyond saving and keep the strap or find a bag that can share its strap with it! You would think that with my huge collection I would already have one but I have made it a point to get each purse in a different color.

Straps are difficult to find and expensive. I once used PCE to order a replacement strap from Coach but it still cost more than I spent on the bag!

Thanks guys, I feel like a fraud when I get compliments on my rehabs because there aren't any great skills involved. You just have to dig in and clean and shine the poor, abused bag to make it look beautiful again. All you really need are perserverance and nerve! (And a good quality conditioner!)

Thank you. I don't think that the people who get rid of these old classic bags realize that with a little TLC there's a good chance of making their "old faithful bag" look beautiful again! Clearly the original owner tried to rehab it with shoe polish but just made it worse.

These classic coach leather bags are incredibly tough and forgiving and have a lot of life left in them!

kate i love all your rehabs, but this one is truly amazing! i don't have enough words for how much i admire how much work you put into refurbishing these bags!
