Thanks, I am glad to hear that your husband's bag has held up well.
You can see in the first pic below that there was some nasty coating on the bag and I had to scrub it off with an abrasive sponge. It came off in tiny flakes.
In the second pic you can see the surface of the bag after washing and it is badly scuffed and scraped and I am sure my scrubbing added to the problem.
Conditioning then applying blackrocks helps to cover and camouflage a lot of the damage and brought back the shine which helps a lot, but it still has some flaws and signs of wear.
Three cheers for blackrocks (and you) - that stuff is really hard to beat when you need it!
katev, I know this forum has been dormant for a while but I need your help.
I have a great old coach briefcase that I stupidly used brown shoe polish to clean up. After day 1 I realized my mistake and have attempted to correct it, but I'm still getting some color transfer.
I washed it with mild soap and water, then used rubbing alcohol (which produced an incredible effect on the leather) to break down some of the polish. I used a rough sponge to scrape away as much as I could and have been using a good leather conditioner to try and keep it healthy. The problem is, when I use some pressure to rub a white cloth across the bag (simulating it rubbing on my clothes while walking / subway riding) I get some color on the white cloth.
The bag looks great now, no trace of that too-dark brown stuff, but I don't want brown on my suits. Any ideas for clearing the polish or sealing it so it won't transfer during normal wear?
Thanks, and great work.
Amazing - when I read that you were going to put it in the washer, I cringed but WOW WOW WOW on the results!
oh man that looks terrific!
