I don't even remember when or how I found out about Louis Vuitton as my mother although very glam is not into labels, nor is anyone else in my family.

That being said I distinctly remember as a child deciding on my future careers by number of Louis Vuitton Handbag per hour. If only!!

Who, or what turned you on to Louis Vuitton, and what was your first piece? Do you buy other designers?
For me, it was a friend of mine in Los Angeles. She had a DA Speedy 30 that I actually did not recognize as Louis Vuitton, and at first I was not a fan of any of the other canvas patterns and leather. Now I am obsessed! Still only a Louis Vuitton girl, and loving my Speedy, but I am becoming more of a Chanel fan, and I never thought that would happen.
My first piece was a preloved Speedy 25 (20 years old). It is gorgeous and the patina is an even honey color and I love it!

Their price.
I've always thought I can't afford one. They are very expensive for me, they cost more than my month salary is. But when I bought my first one I realized I actually can afford it. Not as much as I would like to, but still.

I remembered when I was young, I am always drawn to the monogram pattern, without knowing that it was from a brand called LV. The pattern was so classy and beautiful, in my opinion. Now that I am older, I am so thankful that I am able to purchase an LV bag. It is such a classy and historical brand for me.

Three things:
  1. Marc Jacobs (darn him)
  2. LV store opening five minutes from where I lived at the time (soooo close, exceptional SAs)
  3. Discovering coated canvas (how did I not know about this material for so long?)
Before LV, I didn't have the appreciation/obsession I have for handbags/SLGs that I do today. I really loved Marc Jacobs as a designer at the time, and I bought some of his clothes. I saw pics of one of his runway collections and noticed his bags for the first time. I fell in love with a lot of the shapes of his bags! While deciding which Marc Jacobs bag to splurge on (and having heart palpitations at the idea of actually spending $2k+ for a bag), I visited the new outdoor shopping mall that was still developing around the corner from where I lived at the time.

I walked by the new LV boutique not thinking anything when my eyeballs became fixated on the shapes of some of the items in the display window. I had zero interest in LV or any luxury brand, but I had to see those items in person. The staff were welcoming, and the SAs asked if I've purchased LV before. I showed them my nylon Fossil messenger bag and said that was as fancy as my handbags got. I said I didn't follow fashion at all, except for Marc Jacobs's clothing line.

Then one of the SAs exclaimed the magical words of, "Oh, Marc Jacobs is our creative director!" And it clicked -- those shapes, the aesthetic -- MJ's signature talent clearly expressed for LV.

I asked the SAs about the items I saw. They offered me champagne, pulled out the items for me to see/feel/try on all the while educating me on the LV brand. My fingertips discovered the beautiful durability of coated canvas.

I walked out with a mono bracelet that day. I returned two weeks later to purchase the Mono Cabas Mezzo Reissue b/c of the Angelina Jolie campaign at the time. Then went back again to... LOL

I know this is an old thread but I received a pre-loved vintage LV Saint Cloud in canvas for my milestone birthday a few months ago from my best friend. (So i blame her!It was my first and only LV.
I cannot explain the feeling I had upon receiving the bag! It trumped all of my other bags (I have been a fan of Coach since 2006).
Now I have been trolling the LV website and ebay every single time I have a moment. I don’t want to look at another bag again and I plan to sell all my other bags and replace them with LV. Lol. I kinda like the vintage pieces better than the new collections, especially the bags with the crossgrained leather linings, I love those, it’s just so worth the $$. I am planning to get a brand new one in the near future but I can’t make up my mind as to what style I should buy. I feel an addiction coming!

I don’t specifically remember what started my love for LV, but I guess being a fan of Marc Jacobs was part of it. Prior to that I remember being in Paris and London with my parents and going into Louis Vuitton with my mother, and picking up one of the catalogues they used to do. My first bag was an Abbesses messenger in Monogram canvas, which I no longer have, and my first SLG was a Trunks & Bags DE mini pochette which is still part of my collection.

Many years ago I saw my cousin with a monogram print bag and was intrigued. I wasn't sure if I liked it or if I thought it was ugly. This started me off researching the brand. My heart skipped a beat when I got my first pieces and I still treasure them. I've ventured off to other brands, but I never love anything as much as LV. I am, however, somewhat disappointed that the quality of the newer items is definitely not what it was years ago. That makes me hunt for vintage pieces. I so enjoy reading the threads showing the great vintage finds of other members or how they have cleaned old pieces. TPF definitely keeps my interest in the brand fueled!

My mom! I remember her taking me to the boutique when I was about 12, and the sales associate were so nice to me, they gave me a chocolate bar with LVs on it. The boutique was a few hours away and I got to ride the train enjoying the beautiful German landscape, the whole day was beautiful...I guess I associate lv with that amazing day with my mom.

I started LV by YouTubers in 2017, bought my first vintage petite noe epi black in 2017, bought Victorine wallet and speedy 25B DE in early 2018. I thought I was done because I don't like any designs anymore.
After the pandemic started, I watch youtube again. The main addition is started from a price increase in Jan 2021 for the mini pochette. That's when I started to browse the LV website and found some lovely designs.
I bought 4 bags and couple SLGs this year and I could not stop looking for more.
I think the addiction is this purseblog

My addiction started when I was a teenager in the early 80's. My mom had a few LV's so I bought my first Speedy when I was 18. Then when I was 21 I bought a regular LV shoulder bag (I can't remember the name), and I remember thinking wow, everyone has the Speedy but I have a regular shoulder bag. I was so excited! I've been an LV fan ever since and even though I use Prada and used to have Chanel, Gucci and Fendi bags, I still favor Louis Vuitton.
