What brand is comparable to Hermes quality?

I’m not the one who originally posted this bag, but can chime in. This colour is called “oyster.” It is a taupe shade, similar to Hermès “étoupe”. I find it can be worn year-round, in all seasons, and comes in both the small and medium Iside. The original post looks like the small. The bag is fully lined in chèvre leather. I’m a huge fan of Valextra.

Thank you, JolieS!

If you want a comparable quality to hermes birkin and kelly, your best bet would be to go to a skilled artisan that has worked for Hermes, employs artisan techniques and who has access to a wider range of high quality leather. Serge Amoruso is a great example.

If you live in or near San Francisco, April in Paris is a shop owned by another former Hermes artisan - Béatrice Amblard. She will work with you to customize your exact dream bag. The quality of leather and craftmanship is sublime!

I bought a Ferragamo studio bag, and the quality was no where near Hermès. I was not expecting the quality to be amazing, but the smooth feel plastic/pleather-like to me.

I would try Delvaux.

I agree, for me Ferragamo was hit or miss. Some SLG/wallets in a stamped leather were great quality and seemed comparable to H processed leathers but not nearly as consistent in quality and construction like Hermes

These Fontana bags are gorgeous, but I don't see where they can be purchased via website. Is this something that can only be purchased at the actual shop? Or do they have an online shopping source?
With Covid, I don't know. The only place I know that you could get them online in the past was at Barney's, which is now gone, and their selection was pretty limited. Pre-pandemic, we went to Milan twice a year, so I would shop directly there. You can contact them by email to find out if there are online options, although visiting their store/atelier really is a treat. https://www.fontanamilano1915.com/eng?lang=eng A small number of pre-loved bags might be available at TRR or Fashionphile; have not come across them at the resellers I prefer: Collector Square and Labellov.

Someone said that quality is not equal with durability. So when it comes to durability, there are many brands that are on par with Hermès's durability such as Tod's and Ferragamo. But when it comes to costumer-service, craftmanship, post-sale guarantee, etc, Hermes is incomparable.

Serge Amoruso's work looks fantastic, thanks. I did notice that none of the bags pictured had shoulder straps. Since so much of his work is bespoke, I suppose those could be added.

Re Hermes employees, there are a number of Delvaux artisans who also worked at Hermes. (And vice versa.)
The Baby Kéops comes with a cross-body strap, and yes of course you can ask for customization.

On this note about previous H artisans, also Peter Nitz. Beautiful work! He also trains leathercraft so many of his students have their own emerging ateliers. Check out his IG for info.
