What are your opinions on long mink coats?

I agree photo's would be good.
I have a black 3/4 mink coat and have been wearing it recently with jeans.
Some designs work better than others, although if I had inherited one I would happily wear it regardless of design.
I am very comfortable with mine because of the design so will try and snap some photo's to post later.

Illtaketwo - look forward to seeing pics, I am sure it will look fabulous;

JaneSmith2000 - yes, it is all about pairing it correctly and not assuming that just because an item is beautiful it will work with anything. This really brings me back to beyonce who wears a nice fur badly. I am sure that, with the right outfit (and perhaps a belt around the mink) it would look good.

Can I ask you guys what are your opinions on this fur? The price is listed at $11,500 but I am confident that this will not be the price to pay. So, assuming I can get this for say $7k - $8k - what do you think about the coat? Will the style and color be good for years? My instinct is that a fur, particularly mink is classic and will always be fashionable but I would appreciate your opinions.

I have decided that life is short and I am going to splurge on a new mink and, as I am in NYC in a week or so ...............

(thanks in advance)

Ill take two - did you ever get around to finding some piccies?

Prada Princess,

IMO a design like that will REALLY add bulk to your bottom half because of the horizontal striping and the fur.

try Ritz Furs... they sell pre-owned and I know (at the time) they had at least one piece in that light gray you are looking at..you just can't beat the prices and their merchandise is pristine..They seem to get these rich women who wear a coat 1-2 times for a particular outfit/occasion and then drop them off to sell.. hey, let someone else take the depreciation!!!

you can call them ahead of time and ask if they have what you are looking for.. but I'll tell you.. they have a LOT and you'll love just looking.

In the same building is "webfurs" .. I think they do new and also pre-owned. I think it's webfurs.com

I really like that mink but it is something that you MUST try before you buy. It might add pounds on as suggested. As for the style and color, I love it. I do think it is a classic.

I often wear a full length mink myself and adore it. It gets lots of compliments. I think to make them even more special you should consider one with a trim of a different fur. Take this chinchilla trimmed one for example, the chinchilla makes is look (and no doubt feel) much more luxurious.

Have fun is NYC and remember they even have a fur district!

LOL at Beyonce - she does indeed look a mess
CZJ wears her mink well and Sharon Stone I have seen in a range of full length furs and always carries them off well.
Agyness Dean - I am not really liking this look. Her fur is quite nice actually but her outfit sadly lacking. I am thinking hers is coyote?

I totally agree with you! Also I think the ability to wear full length fur depends on your height. If you're petite and small it may just look overwhelming on you. Though I love Agyness' fur coat, I don't think I would be able to wear it since I'm on the short side.

Although I would completely change my mind if I could find this one worn by Carrie in Sex and the City!!

Aliswishesbear - yes, it looks gorgeous on Carrie in that picture. I had forgotten that she had worn a similar one. Is Carrie's coyote do you think? It is beautiful for sure. Incidentally, Agyness wore that fur with a dress and it looked much better on her.

I have also dug out a pic of both Mary J Blige and Sharon Stone who show how a long mink can be worn well.

I recently acquired a long dark brown mink coat from a family member. I would never buy one of these because I'd probably feel bad (and wouldn't be able to afford it), and I used to be very anti-fur. Now, I kind of like the way it looks; I find the coat to be very luxurious.

So, what are your thoughts?

That is a lovely legacy. Though in principle I am anti-fur in practice I feel that if its vintage or you inherited it, it disrespectful not to make the most of it. It sounds beautiful - can you post some good photos modeling it or on its own so we can have a proper look?;)

Actually, Mary's might be sable, I am not so sure?

I think you might be right

Plus, she happily wears a LV mono mink scarf to a Gucci event, I love brand disloyalty :p
