What are healthy/positive attitudes and thoughts people have about handbags?

Not sure about the healthy part but this is positive for me, lol.
I buy nice things because I want to. I don't care what other people think or say. :P

Agree with @papertiger on TPF.
Personally, I actually think it's a great way to prevent spiraling down the rabbit hole of bag obsession. (Though I understand it may be the other way around for others.) I enjoy reading the pro's and con's of luxury goods; they definitely make me think twice if not thrice about buying something. And the money talk threads are always a good read!

A bit off topic of bags but: For luxury fine jewelry, yes, they're overpriced, but they will last forever. I understand that I am buying the brand but I love the brands I buy from. I love wearing my pieces everyday and every time I see them, they bring me joy. It has been over 5 years for some of them and they are still going strong. My consumption of costume jewelry has decreased basically to zero since getting into fine jewelry. My jewelry collection has downsized significantly, relative to it was before, and I'm a lot happier with the pieces I have.

A bit OT (sorry)
The best part of branded jewelry is that down the line, they will still be around long after most family jewellers will have closed and retired. (50-100 years) Longterm peace of mind with regards to aftercare availability is a strong argument.

I've never had much interest in costume jewelry, mainly when I was young and couldn't afford fine jewelry. Even then, I went with good quality in classic styles. I'd rather have a limited collection of good jewelry than a lot of costume.

3. Does being on tPF 24/7 count? Most of my 'other' friends wouldn't understand, this is one (of my most time-consuming) hobbies (I know, sad but sadly true :girlsigh: )

Came here to say it's just a harmless diversion, but then I remembered how much grief I give my husband about the amount of time he spends playing an online game.

As long as it's not interfering with your real world responsibilities you're fine.

I think of luxury handbags a way to manifest and meet my financial/career goals. I started with vintage and I am slowly working my way up my goals to hopefully one day get an Hermes Constance.
I don’t want to hoard but let me get there first and worry about it then

I am wondering if I should try making a purse fund and if that would motivate me to save more money and more actively! That way I've saved the money and I can use it on things other than a purse. But thinking about a purse is more fun!

Yes! Absolutely! It’ll feel so good when you have saved enough and worked hard for your bag.

I also make sure I can afford to lose the bag if anything were to happen

Good question! I'm sure there are lots of people who have already said most of what I would say, so I'll add a less expected one: my mom! If I can't convince my mom it's a good idea to buy this handbag, and if I would try to hide the bag or the bag's price from her, it's not a good idea.
Omg, same! I'm a grown adult but making my mom proud of me (financially) is important and having her know I spent my funds well. If I lie to her about a price or 'forget' to show her a bag it was probably a mistake to purchase it and I feel bad. I just try super hard to use what I buy - I always tell myself to use my items.
